New Carvin B1000

I'll be interested in seeing where it ends up being price-wise. For me, 600W@4 is more than enough as I'll probably drive a 4ohm cab or 2 with it. Right now I'm using a 250W combo and it's plenty. I'm just looking to power a to-be-purchased multi-driver rig. The only thing keeping me from their existing BX500/250 is a.) they don't fit in my gig bag and b.) the BX500's DI is/was 'pre' only, so no eq or drive (maybe that's changed?). If the B1000 doesn't have a pre/post, then it's a no-go for me.

Are there micro amps already out there that do 900W @ 4 ohms?

A lot of companies largest model of micros do 800-900 watts, just very few of them can do 2 ohms.

This amp would have plenty of power for me. My current gigging amps are 200 and 350 watts at the 4ohms I run them at, but I like their "flavor" when they're cranked up and enjoy running them like that. I'd imagine like most Carvins, this one would stay clean until it runs out of gas, so the extra power really would be for headroom. Curious how they'll price it compared to the rest of their line. Oddly, their amps with all the extra eq, gadgets, 2 channels, biampable, etc. aren't priced much different than their more simple, straight forward amps.

Something tells ME that you were reading my mind...Heheheheh

Just grab a used T-Max for a couple hundred bucks and be done with it, you know that's what you really want. ;)

I still play mine all the time, that's what 350 watts is supposed to hit like. You don't need a thousand watts if the few hundred you have do what they're supposed to do. :)

I haven't jumped on the micro bandwagon yet, and probably won't at least until something of mine breaks down. That can be a very long time when you run Peavey's and GK's.

It isn't until the end of that YouTube clip did the guy give us a real sample of the amp's sound. He's playing chords and the clarity and note definition is SWEET. My guess is he's running at either and 4 ohms or 2 ohms.

Heheheheh...Will, I already have 2 TMAX's ;)..and I agree!

I have a BX1500 I run bridged into two Fearless cabs....an F110 and F115. It is a fantastic amp, with tons of power. But I gotta admit all the parametrics and so forth....I haven't had the patience to really dial them in to a tone I like. I've also wanted a small amp you can throw into a bag for gigging...so I'm going to order the B1000. According to the Carvin tech I talked to today, the basic amp electronics are the same in the B and the BX series; the difference is just the tone shaping. They offer the BX for guys who are more picky I guess, or who do alot of soloing or need lots of tone shaping capability, and the B for, I guess, schlubs like me who are too stupid or lazy to mess with all those dials. I'm gonna try a B1000....that plus my little red Fearless F110 will make a very lightweight and awesome travel rig.

FYI, it's not on the website yet, but specs for the B1000 are 325W at 8 ohm, 600W at 4 ohm, and 1000 if you go all the way down to 2.

Don't run them bridged because they're two different cabs. Run separate speakons to each cab (parallell) and turn the BRIDGE button (on the back) off (out). Now you can just flip the switch to run in either dual mono or bi-amp mode. The CROSSOVER knob (X-OVER switch ON) can be used to direct more lows to the 115 and more mids and highs to the 110. Now you can get more volume without stressing the 110.

Also, boost the low mids by turning the low mid FREQ to 100, then turning the low mid LEVEL to the right of center, around 3 or even 6. Now the amp comes to life. I set my DRIVE straight up.

It won't be as loud as bridged (with the MASTER at the same level), but now you have complete control over both your cabs. A volume knob for each cab and a MASTER once you have them mixed right.
Try it!!

Looks like a slightly modified BX500, where the differences are:
- red/black chassis rather than dull gray
- LED backlighting on the controls
- 200w more power when operating at 2 ohms (500w @ 2ohms before). Basically no change at 8 or 4 ohms.
- one of the two speakons has been replaced with a 1/4" phono jack
- push button switches for mute/active/eq, rather than the older "throw" style switches
- added a DI pre/post switch (the old model was hard-wired to pre, which was a deal breaker to some)

Otherwise, looks identical.

There's also a new "lock in" AC cord which sounds like it could be a useful feature.

I'd pay $50 more for the pre-post switch and the dress up.

The new amps are up on Carvn's website. Here's the B1000:

Interesting. I loved my B1500's (owned two of them through the years) but got tired of carrying them. Played a B2000 at a gig recently. It was owned by Sean O'Bryan Smith, who is an amazing player here in town. I immediately felt at home. Very similar to the B1500, as was Carvin's target. At this point, though, I really don't need that much. The master volume never got above 2 (on a 1-10 scale, not 2 o'clock). The B1000 might be a very nice option for my larger shows.

Who knows, we'll see ...

Cheers,
Liam

B1000 specs are 325w at 8 ohms, 600w at 4 ohms, 900w at 2 ohms. That's what I'm looking for. I used to own a B800 and it was a great little amp, but I sold it in a fit of senility.

Damn you Carvin, I was almost happy with my Chinese junk and now you had to go and build this.

I'm really torn between this one and the new BX700. At this point in my life, I can't see myself ever needing a 2 ohm load, but, never say never ! ;) Obviously, the EQ section of the BX700 is more extensive, and I am used to the BX1500 EQ section, which is similar. At 4 ohms, the 700 is 550 watts, the 1000 is 600. The 700 is lighter by about a pound, although there seems to be different weights in the catalog as opposed to the website. Has anyone played the older BX500 and the 2000 ? I'd love to hear how the EQ sections differ.

There seems to be 2 weights listed on the website for the B1000: One says 13 pounds (same as B2000), the other 6.4 pounds. I wonder which is correct, as that is a significant difference for an amp in this category….

Wow, that would make a difference. The catalog I just got says the 1000 weighs in at 7 lb. Same dimensions as the BX700 .

I'd get the 700, based on my experience with both the older B800 and current BX500 heads. The BX has much more flexible eq. They both sound great.

My B800 head(part of a brx212 combo) died. Turned me off to Carvin amps. I was looking into one of the other micro amps, mostly GK. A friend had me play his BX500 head..... I bought one, used, from a TBer, almost immediately.

So far, that 500 head has been reliable.
