New Darkglass Compressor: The Hyper Luminal Hybrid Compressor

I just emailed support about mine also. It's been randomly cutting out and making popping noises as it does also. I'll let you know what I find out.
In the meantime, try the hyper luminal with isolated power. I just ran it straight into my Yamaha DXR15 powered speaker, powering it with a one spot, no daisy chain, and it was flawless. I'm liking the super symmetry mode for butter smooth compression that keeps my dynamics and just smooths out the edges. When part of a daisy chain it's just temperamental, noise when turning pots, power supply hum, pops, you name it. Isolated, totally silent and well behaved.

Some of the older units have a strange power bug with certain isolated supplies as well, it's been documented a bit here so power bugs with these units aren't exactly unheard of. My black one works perfectly now and for that I am happy

Why are Darkglass so finicky with power? Mines less then a year old by the way, does that make a difference?
I think the HL is particularly sensitive to sharing power dependent on what it is chained with. I could imagine a high-voltage tube + digital sim pedal like the Olympic causing all sorts of interesting interactions with other pedals.

Darkglass isn’t alone in this- I first started using isolated power ages ago when I was starting to branch out my effects from just layers of dirt. Digital and digitally-controlled pedals from all sorts of manufacturers, as well as analog time-based effects and even certain analog dirt pedals with more complex signal paths all can have interesting interactions when sharing power. Isolated units are far more reliable in the long-term in my experience- I’ve gone through a fair number of One-Spots over the years on supplemental boards that developed noise problems or just quit working altogether, but never had an issue with any of my Cioks isolated supplies and have been using their products for a dozen years at least.

I guess it's time to save for a DC7.

Happy Thanksgiving TB!

Anyone running the latest DG Suite?

I just downloaded it and noticed it has a IR signal chain page. I mucked around in it for a little bit but it was giving me an error message stating that the cab sim couldn’t be loaded to slot one.

My guess is that IR’s are not able to load to the HL? Is my speculation correct?

Thanks

Cheers,

I think that page is for the Element and Ultra Preamps and possibly the amp heads.

I'm not aware that the HL has ever had a IR function.

I just reordered an element. I bought one when they first came out for practice amp purposes but it wasn't what I was looking for. Now with the updates and extra features and selling of my gt1000core it'll be of great utility to me at the end of my board. Running drum tracks through the bluetooth, IRs, the noise gate, and the headphone out are gonna be of great use.

Are you using a Mac? At last check I was unable to load DG suite on my M1 IMac..

I am expecting my Hyper Luminal this week.I am not very knowledgeable on comps and have been using a Spectra comp and an Ampeg Opto Comp. When engaged I can't tell much more than a boost and perhaps a bit more sustain. The Videos and reviews I've seen are impressive and the consensus seems to be the H.L. is one of if not the best.Along with the Cali76 the H.L.is the only one I could actually hear make a difference in the videos.I was leaning towards the Cali76 before I found out about this Darkglass offering as it has that same type of comp plus two more. And I saved over $125 vs.the price of the Cali76 with a great Black Friday discount.Do I need to set anything as I've read some talking of "factory reset" and "default ".Like I said I'm a noob with comps basically but I'm pretty psyched to get this pedal. The sample settings posted will be helpful.

I don't know why I didn't think of the hpf almost as an inverse gain control when using all buttons mode. Set at 500hz the distortion was not perceivable when A/B'd against clean, this was with max blend, compression, max time on inverse and level matched to clean. No gain reduction lights at all

Switch over to 0 and its way too much saturation for my taste, with the same settings and level matched you can hear a significant squeeze and the lights will tell you also.

Have mine at 250 for now and it seems like a nice middle ground for max blend anyway. I usually leave mine always on to aid in boosting my amp but I definitely understand the hpf a little more now.

I finally got a Cioks DC7. Finally can ditch the power supply for the Shiftline Olympic and give the Darkglass Hyper Luminal the isolated juice it so desires. It's sucked not being able to use the HL for so long but worth the wait. If you buy fancy pedals like DG, good power is worth the investment folks.
I've intermittently had problems with my HL running it off a voodoo labs power supply. Does it need more than 250 ma?
