New Darkglass Compressor: The Hyper Luminal Hybrid Compressor

Going to have to send my unit off for service regarding the power bug and metering in all buttons mode, I thought about buying one of the black ones but I'm scared it will have these same problems and I'll be at square one again.

Sucks that I'll be without it because I really love this pedal but I'll be without my bass again in a few months anyway. Might as well get it dealt with.

If you can find a black one, get it. I seriously doubt you'll have any issues. I had two silver ones, bought a black one and sold one of the silver ones (yes I may be slightly crazed but I like the black and it looks cool on my big board!!!) NONE of them had any problems or issues like you described!! Yours is the 1st Ive heard of having any issues!!

I'm always on the look out for a black one for a decent price

Just ordered a black one a sec ago, don't feel like the hassle of sending it off. It was a good price and condition so I felt pressured to move on it. My main "justification" being that all my other pedals are black so the silver sticks out like a sore thumb.

Anyway awesome pedal, looking forward to my new one that will hopefully have zero issues.

Nice find, I dig a quick look yesterday but didn't see anything

The new to me black Luminal came in yesterday, been playing around with it for a bit and I swear it sounds slightly louder and better than my old unit. No power bug this time so that's a win. The lights aren't giving me problems in all buttons mode like they were before and I feel like I can hear the mode's "effect" better but I'm probably just crazy. Didn't realize the LEDs are white on the black version, I think they look sweet. Really happy with this one.

Anybody here using their HL on extreme settings? Been really digging the saturation and high end attenuation of the all buttons in mode with maxed out compression, blend and slowest attack, fastest release. I run the output really low because the gain staging of my rig doesn't allow for it to be pushed.

Also I'm not sure if my blend knob is defective, maybe someone could explain to me what's happening. The clean signal is way louder than the compressed signal because of the output being set low, but when I lower the blend control I still lose volume. Is this due to the output effecting the clean signal?

I seriously think the difference your perceiving is probably due to the Internal settings of your new one.. Not sure if you remember what your old settings were, But if you were able to compare them, that's probably what you're hearing..

I didn't directly A/B them but I did remember the settings I was using, definitely all in my head. I had a similar experience recently with a B7k vs a B7k Ultra, had to level match the Ultra before it felt like it had the same exact sound as the B7k ran flat.

This seems pretty common with DG pedals (and frankly most pedals). Particularly without center detents on the controls, small component tolerance differences can add up and visual references are relatively meaningless. I generally try to set my pedals by ear rather than by eye for this reason.
