New Dean Dimebag Bass

I don't get it Dime was a guitar player and those guitar that came out a while back were supposedly were in production at Dime's death and dean decided to go through with their release in tribute to him. I understand that and even respect that part of it. Because Dime's death has been driving sales of all the Dime guitars. This bass though seems like a marketing ploy by Dean to get more sales from us bass players since the guitars are so succesful. I don't even think Dime ever seriously played bass.

I dont like pointy guitars or basses they are just uncomfortable for me to play and they are just not pleasing to my eyes. So I won't be buying one, ever.

i guess you're right, there's only a few people who know fore sure, and i certainly wasn't invited to their meeting :smug: . in dec 2005's guitar world and even the dean website, both say he was working on "guitar designs", but neither mention a bass. once again, i find it funny that it would be marketed as "Designed by Dimebag Darrell to be the end-all metal bass" when HE NEVER SAW THE PROTOTYPE GUITAR. it was delivered to the dean shop the day after he was killed, and since i seriously doubt they would have made the bass for him to endorse before the guitar was even done.......

Let's get one thing clear concerning the Jaco bass. That bass was made due to VERY popular demand. About 7 years BEFORE those came out, and guy on the marketing/design team at Fender told me that they had no plans for a Jaco sig, but if the mounting requests continue, they'd look into it. Jaco died in the 80's, and he got a sig model almost 20 years later. Cashing in? Please.

Uhhh, isn't that EXACTLY cashing in? Not coming out with a product until there is enough demand to make it profitable? The fact that it took 20 years doesn't mean that they aren't making money off of his name. If the name didn't matter, why not just make a bass with identical specs and not have to pay a licensing fee to the estate?

Because that's not what their customers asked for. This isn't cashing in, it's giving your consumers what they demanded. If they were "cashing in", they would've done long before the demand, don'tcha think?

The Jaco bass is cool, If kinda lame, pay extra to have a crude bass? From what I have heard he did the defretting job himself, badly, and used boat hull epoxy for the fretboard. Then dragged his bass around with no case and beat the hell out of it. Now all the endless Jimi Hendrix products, that is cashing in. Eddie Kramer? Has he done anything since he recordeed Hendrix besides talk about how he recorded Hendrix? And the endless spew of hendrix pedals, etc. Well Dimebag endorsed a lot when he was here, looks like those endorsments went into full effect when he got shot!
Speaking of, at least he died playing music, not OD ing or choking on vomit!
