New Dean Dimebag Bass

I don't understand why you all hate this so much. I kinda like it, it's cool in the sorta 'Dimebag Darrel kickassness' sorta way.

And as for you Cash-in callers, I personally believe that ANY and ALL signiture models must therefor be called cash ins! Do you think fender would make a marcus miller bass for the public if they didn't expect the signature on the headstock to bring in the dough? No way. They wouldn't sell any signature bass if they didn't expect the attached name to boost income, granted they're mostly all fine quality instruments, but its the name the manifacturers really care about. It doesn't matter whether the artist is alive or dead, it's all in the name.

I'd buy this bass, while we all say its ugly, imagine the reaction you'd get from the crowd at a massive metal gig in a smokey bar or arena when you walked out shaking the floor with that thing.

Maybe I can shed a little light on the subject. I ran the Washburn Custom Shop back in the early `90`s and I built the prototype guitars for Dime.
I can tell you this, Dime was very image conscious and there was dialogue about building a "DimeBolt" bass, that was put on the back burner as we wanted to get the guitars going first.

His brain was constantly working and he had several ideas for guitar designs as well as bass designs in his head. He was really into guitar design. I still have several old faxes here of guitar and bass designs that he sent to me asking my opinion. He also asked me several times to sit down with him and Rex and "lets have some basses out here"

So I would say it is safe to say that he intended for the Dean Razorback Guitar and Bass to be put into production.
Also, Dean wouldn`t be allowed to enter the design into production without Rita`s (Dime`s widow) permission and I`m sure that a healthy chunk of the proceeds are funneled into the Dime Foundation that he started.

I think it's awesome but the idea of having someone elses name plastered all over my instrument doesen't sit right with me. I'm also 22 and not pimply faced or angry at the world I just like wierd looking pointy basses.

There is a difference between the Dime Bass & other Signature models. Other Sig models are actually used by the artists that designed 'em.

Anyways, I don't get why you guys don't like it so much... It looks great to me! Being a neck-thru and all... I only hope it does not have neck dive... The Only thing ill change of it is the pickups.

But i still think it's wrong to cash in on a deceased legend. If they only changed the name of this bass....:bassist:

I love the Dimebag and Flying V designs. People can rag on them all they want, but the regular Fender-esque design is bland after all these years. Reminds me of new year model cars that look exactly like last year's (and have the same parts), but one edge has been smoothed out or something ridiculous like that.

With this design you have something new. You might not like it, but obviously other people do, since it's still in production.

And hey, look on the bright side, for every pimple-faced, angst-filled, suburban teenager who likes to downtune that buys this bass, there is a snobby, middle-aged, sub-urban jazz player who wants a Jaco bass or the sacred Fender P/Jazz bass. The universe is balanced!

And as to whether it's cashing in on a dead man or not, who cares? It's a cool design. If Bill Gates or John Paul II had designed this bass, I'd still like it.

EDIT: Or wait, I guess since JP is dead, I'd have to use the new Pope. But you get my idea. It's the design, not the person behind it, that I like. To be sure, there are people who are only buying it because of Dimebag and will put their eyes out with it, but you can't say that's everybody's reason for liking it.

Not sure if you guys know but Dean is losing rights to the dimebag name in winter 2007. and they go back to his wife, so Dean is cashing in on whatever they can with the short year they have with the products stamped with "dime"

I have played one of those basses, Plays great but......$800? MM sub would be a better choice.



Also the reason that the razorback is promoted so highly is because it was the guitar dime finished designing in November 2004 (Dime was killed the next month)

that was the body style not the bass...

Assuming she doesn't turn right around and sell it back again. For a large sum of money. I would, if I were her.
