I’ve been a diehard JT fan since the early 80s and can say that Sound Of Thunder might actually be my favorite playing of his. The note choices and phrasing still just make my head spin a little.
I might do Anyone Out There tuned up a few cents to match the album and drive my ears crazy
Though I absolutely love most things 80s, THIS drives me absolutely crazy too! They sped up their masters! Sometimes, it's way more than 10 cents or whatever. It's surprisingly difficult to get a song back down to proper pitch, if you're trying to be exact anyway. Chorus makes things super fun too!
Playing along at normal pitch and doing the harmonics is like nails on chalkboard lol

For years my go-to DD songs for demoing basses were Last Chance on the Stairway and New Religion. Lately it's been Friends of Mine. So catchy that chorus!
You know I can absolutely guarantee that I’ve never, ever demo’d a bass and not played New Religion within the first 60 seconds! It’s always kinda been my “go to” for some reason. Maybe because his tone in that song…that fat, growling snarl, is literally my favorite tone EVER.
For me it's the fast version of My Own Way. After Is There Something I Should Know and Le Freak, it's one of the tunes that got me hooked on bass.
It's a great tune to demo with! You need to make sure the low E sounds great, then later you can pop on the G string. You can even hit harmonics if ya stick around long enough.
I mainly play fretless so it's easier to adjust to those songs!

Maybe fretless suits me better as I adjusted to it fairly quick! I encourage all bass players to try fretless as it may not be as intimidating as it seems.One of the most positive aspects is the faster playing neck which makes some of those fast JT basslines much easier!
And I just realized I have yet to learn Lonely in Your Nightmare on my fretless

Now I gotta ask... would you/do you play a fanned fretless? Gosh, I don't even know if I've ever seen one.
Today there's a new video, seemingly with the Neve preamp active but everything at 0. I gotta say I like this "slow unveiling" of tones thing going on.

I've never played a fanned fretless but I'd be interested to try one for kicks! Though I prefer unlined fretless because lines are a visual distraction for my brain. I can't imagine there would even be unlined fanned fretless due to the nature of the fanned frets and placement!?
Back to the JT Sig and Dingwalls, I really like the fact that they use small frets. Makes the transition to frets much easier, at least for me.

I'm also excited about that. It will be my first bass with smaller frets. I know I'm gonna like 'em because I recently had @ModuMan 's Wal Mk3 in my hobbit hands and he went with smaller frets. They were nice!
Once I realized all the fretted basses that were comfy for me had smaller frets it was a great revelation!
Getting to try a Wal Mk3? I'm jealous!
I'd love to try one of their 5 string fretless basses. A unicorn for me!
