New Dingwall John Taylor Signature

I got tired of waiting for my (unlimited) black JT Sig. 4-string so I cancelled that and just ordered a black NG3 4-string instead. A bit cheaper, 3-band EQ instead of 2-band on the JT and I prefer the maple board (on this unit) over the Pau Ferro on the JT. Will be shipping today! I would have stayed with the JT Sig. but since I already have the Limited model in Cranberry I figured no real reason to double up.
As a fellow owner of one of the Rio Dream basses [high five!], I'd be intrigued to know if the fit and finish on an NG3 [or Combustion, or even D-Roc] is as good as this.
The fret dressing is the best I've ever encountered. If it's the same for more "off the peg" Dingwalls, then... wow.

It was limited edition 82 for 1982 the year RIO came out .
I wouldn't be surprised if you can get Cranberry Pearl or a Close Facsimile as a custom color in the future.
While 82 is a nice thematic number they could easily have sold more of them. 1982 of them? Hard to say. In any event it was a cool way to generate interest in the bass. Let's be honest though, "they used a Neve board to record the album!" is a bit of a stretch to introduce the pre lol

If it was a Sting sig, the copy would be: We're calling it the Ghost Island Bass because we recorded on Montserrat while dancing on a Neve!

I believe so … but for the price I’d expect a hard case personally.
The production modes will most likely have the case that comes with the combustions, similar but not as nice
The case that I got with my SJ5 was a really good softshell case. Unfortunately it was left in the basement too long when I was re-doing a room upstairs and it got all moldy so I had to throw it out.
If I didn't get a hard case at *that* price point I'm not sure what qualifies lol but I'd love to have another one of those.
I guess the next question will be which really sturdy gig bag/case will fit a Combustion? I find regular gig bags tend to get worn out pretty quickly if you use them for, you know, gigs.
Nope. That is limited to the 82 cranberry ones.
I got a pile of hard cases I don't use. I'm sure there are exceptions, but in general, hard cases get beat up faster than gig bags in regular use. And if you get high quality gig bags like this one, I'm pretty sure they protect the bass better than a regular hard case. Your bass is almost never as snug inside a hard case as it is in a gig bag. It's not just coincidence that high end makers such as Dingwall, Mike Lull and Sadowsky have moved away from hard cases.
