New DR Fodera merger

Ik always liked the Fodera strings both as THE round wound string for 4 string fretless and fretted six string - they sing and have some real bite in a way that I never got out of other strings...
Agreed, for fretted and speaking of stainless steel, at least. For me, the Anthony Jackson zing is emblematic of how Fodera strings were different from probably any others.

I haven't played all makes and models of bass guitar strings for comparison. But I cannot recall ever playing strings that sounded like pre-DR Foderas (or, for a while there, also Dark Horse).

So I just bought a bunch of NOS pre-DR Fodera 4- and 5-string sets on Reverb. I don't change strings often, but when someday all my old Fodera and Dark Horse sets are spent, I will have to face the brave new world, I guess.

Or so I thought. The seller was incompetent: Their listings showed the pre-DR packaging, but they sent me the DR strings. This was true of the 4-string sets, which arrived first. Presumably it will be true for the 5-strings sets, too.

So now it's returns for refund, and still no strings. Probably the brave new world already is here for me.

Link Removed has the OG Foderas. I ordered some from him, a few mos. ago. Just shoot him a message to make sure.

Just occurred to me to look for a string comparison on YouTube, and I found a pretty good one. Sounds to me like the F DR steels sound a lot like original Fodera nickels, which I've never heard before and they ain't bad. FDR nickels still sound PB like.

Had the nickels for enough playing time now to know they have just average string life. They feel pretty good, sound like they sound but to me they're not worth ~$10 more than others.
