New DR Fodera merger

I put another set of Fodera x DR on my Shortscale (Sandberg Florence) Bass, which was equipped with heavily loved DR Pure Blues before. The DRxFodera make a real good job on the Shortscale. They really seem stiffer.

...I think I will have to invest in the Fodera instead of DR Pure Blues in the future... I play my strings for a longer time – so the price difference is not too much. :-/

I recently switched to DR Pure Blues because there were no Fodera Strings around... Now I tried the DR x Fordera 45-105 Nickel.

In appearance Pure Blues and DR x Fodera look the same. They nearly feel the same. Sound can only be compared with new ones (and I don't have the money and time to test new Pure Blues versus New DRxFodera).

Time will tell if they develop different ... but in the first glance they are very near to each other. Maybe the DRxFodera are a touch brighter and stiffer... but to be honest – maybe this is in my head because they cost (in Germany) 4 EUR more ;-)

I'm convinced the Fodera DRs are Pure Blues in a different package. I've been using Pure Blues for at leat 8 years, if not longer, and I put a set on my Fodera that had been strung with Fodera Nickles, and they sound and feel the same to me.

Ordered one of the new DR/Fodera 120-28 Nickels and put them on my favorite 6 String. Well gotta say that I am a little disappointed and they arent like the old Fodera strings. They feel somewhat stiffer and are smoother (which is not necessarily a positive for me), have less complex mids. They arent a bad string. But they arent like the old Fodera Nickels which were just amazing.

I know of at least one other rebranded DR relationship, both in Nickel and Stainless. Not hiding it either....

Changed 2+ year old strings on my Emperor with a new set of Fodera/DR strings. I moved to a heavier set and I like them. Definitely not like the old set (I have a couple of those sets left) but I do like them.

I agree 100% with this. Have you found anything that can possibly compare to the old Fodera strings?

Unfortunately for me the old Fodera roundwounds were just it. Of course its nuances and the new ones arent bad. But yeah I was just so used to these old Fodera Nickels and they made every bass of mine sound and feel better. I think Dunlop Superbrights arent a bad string either. They sound a little less aggressive and dont last as long. But I like their overall feel and character.

I'll give those Dunlops a try. I agree completely about the old Fodera's being "it." Seems bizarre to me the difference in tonal complexity you could get out of them. You'd think it's all just metal wound on metal.

Ik always liked the Fodera strings both as THE round wound string for 4 string fretless and fretted six string - they sing and have some real bite in a way that I never got out of other strings - for the 6 the high C sang as good as the low b. I put on my final set of the classic Fodera on my sixer. 'll see what the new strings will bring, but not having ng high hopes here

I never tried the original Fodera strings. I've had the Fodera DR nickels 45-125 on for a while, they do sound like a DR family string(not LoRiders so much).
