New EB Cobalt Strings

Looks like mostly guitard players posting about them, didn't see any bass players using them yet.

I'll get some but I have a fresh set of nickel Lo riders on. I had pre ordered two sets of Hybrid Slinkys for my guitarist. I did a little impromptu jam session this evening so I got to hear the set he through on his G&L.

I've listened to and played with this paricular guitar for years. I could tell a difference. I don't want to sound like a press release, but they really made this guitar sound even better. Beefier, yet with more definition, crystal clean highs that seemed to have more body.

Now his Legacy always sounds good, and he's a Hell of a player. But it seemed to have a little something extra with the cobalts.

He loved them, doesnt own a music man guitar, but plays slinkys.

Sometimes I think I'm the only person on this forum who uses EB slinks. :hiding:

I've been playing EB Slinky's 45-105 for over 30 years now and I LOVE them. They last a long time for me and sound fresh for about a year and I play about 50-60 gigs a year. It's all in your body chemistry whether you destroy strings or not with the amount of sweat and acid you expel. I can't wait to try the Cobalt strings. I love the nickel sound, but the Steel strings always sounded to clanky for me, so if the Cobalts sit somewhere in the middle. I think that I will really love them...

Having had a set of Cobalts for a few weeks now, I will say that the cobalt strings remind me more of steel strings in sound, but much smoother feeling. They're definitely not as scooped compared to steels. Compared to the nickel EB strings, they have a little more tension to them. I think overall these strings speak very well. Honestly, on my Big Al SSS I prefer the nickels, but the cobalts are definitely an interesting tonal option.

That sounds like a very accurate description between the 2. I love the feel and ease of the Nickel Slinky's not to mention the lower cost. But I think I would give the Cobalts a try just out of curiosity after reading your comment. Good job and thanks....
