New EHX Bass Clone Chorus

Makes sense. I know I like it much better with the x-over on. IMO it takes the "mush" out of the low end and works really well with my set up. For me this is a great chorus pedal over all. Plus, take into account the price and it's just a no brainer.

The bass clone I received has a hiss that's just there as soon as you turn it on. Turning the treble knob doesnt seem to affect it. It hisses with a 9v battery and with a one-spot psu.

Is this something I should just take for granted?

Did you try different instrument cables? Is your bass active or passive?

There is the possibility there is something wrong with the pedal, it happens. But I found that it's normally something utilitarian. A bad patch or instrument cable, my battery is dying in my bass. It could even be something else plugged in the room like a fan or like that's causing it. Do you have other pedals you can try or use that do the same thing maybe?

It's the only pedal between my bass and amp. Different cables dont make any difference.

I've heard others talk about 'analog noise' in this topic, maybe that's a better description. It's not very loud but it is evident. Maybe in a band situation you won't notice it, but for me mostly playing at home I find it odd.

It sounds like it may be the pedal. But then again, it could just be the pedals nature. Idk, never played it. But if it's really not that bad, you most likely wont hear it in a band setting.

OTOH, I'm not there and I can't hear it.....

Just double checked mine. No hiss even under headphones. Could be line noise? Did you try plugging your setup in a different room to put you on a different circuit?

Signal chain is guitar > cable > pedal > cable > usb interface. The pedal runs on a 9v battery.

I've swapped cables but I hear this noise everytime. I've compressed it a bit though so you can hear it better.

What I would do (if you can) go to a store that carries one and plug into it, see if it does the same thing. I would even bring your bass. If you can't do that, maybe see about an exchange with the vendor/supplier you bought it from....?

All of the EHX Chorus pedals I've had have been fairly noisy like this. All analog delay-based circuits will have noise from the BBD chips used, but different pedals filter out the highs in different ways to mask it later in the circuitry. Part of the beauty of the EHX choruses is how bright they are, which comes at the expense of that noise-masking filtering. Unfortunately if you want a completely noise-free but also bright chorus, you really need a digital pedal!

I felt a bit like this with the tech 21 bass boost chorus. I was always fussing with the mix, depth, and voice button to try to get a balance of clarity vs effect. The crossover of the Clone solved this problem for me.

i really liked Tech21 Bass Boost Chorus, even i have had Tech21 Boost Chorus at the same time in my board - same as T Rex Sweeper and Twister later. But... When i have had EHX Neo Clone - i felt myself better, it worked well with my POG2 and TC Flashback those days of my past... My only complaint was a VERY loud click when i switched it on. That is why EHX Bass Clone is my choice for now. Also i use intensively Mobius for detuner and for some bizarre choruses. But Bass Clone is good for my regular tones - clean and neutrally juiced.

Just bought one in the TB classifieds. Anyone use theirs with a 5 string? How does it sound with an open B chord or C? I hated my EHX bass muff but love my vintage bassballs and Memoryman delay so I'm giving it a shot. I previously had a EBS unichorus which was decent but I felt it was missing presence so to speak, it kind of got lost in a mix, I couldn't notice the effect when guitars and drums kicked in. I've recorded with vintage ibanez UE400 and UE300S and like the chorus on those that you can feel, but they are too big and bulky to gig with.

I use the Bass Clone with an active fiver. For me it works best with the crossover in the up position. It keeps the bottom end tight while still letting the chorus do its thing. Gets a little too muddy on the low B for me running the chorus full range. Lots of cool tones in this little box.
