The question is... Is it worth the money? I'm still debating it. There's still some available.
It's worth the money for me... I'm loving the thumbrest, I'm loving the mutes, and I'm loving the active setup. It checks most of the boxes for me.
What are your thoughts on the parallel, single coil, and series sounds? I’m very curious about the single coil option.
Got mine today as well - it’s about 8 lbs in weight. I’m loving the sounds available - sounds, looks, feels and plays great (it’s normal scale).
Nice figuring on the two piece swamp ash body and the ebony board is jet black. I’m very pleased!

Beautiful, I love the looks of that bass. How do you like the passive sound compared to a normal active Ray?
One thing I didn't notice on the specs :
Is the old-school mute bridge old-school steel, or is it light weight aluminium, like the rest of the "Special" hardware?

I can't remember what my SR4 special has on the headstock, do the regular stingrays have "MUSICMAN" colored in gold like yours?
I'd like to know this too, I'm sure its the same as the old steel. Although the writing doesn't look as stamped as it does on the say the Sterling or Classic bridge, like the chrome isn't as heavily applied as normal
The sounds are really good - totally Musicman sounding. The series setting is my favourite - it sounds quite pumped up!! The single coil sounds slightly thinner and more trebly. The tone control is also good, bassy at one end of the scale, a bit more mid/treble at the other end. As well as my normal stuff, I’ve been playing a few Joe Dart and RATM things - the bass sounds perfect for these! I also like the boost available - will be useful for the odd one or two bars bass breaks.
I haven’t a clue what material the bridge is made from but it looks exactly like the ones on my Musicman Classic basses.
The logo is different (photo of Special and TC head stocks to show the difference). Close up of the bridge also.

I just checked the spec and it’s a hardened steel bridge plate.
Yeah I'm willing to bet aluminum wouldn't work with thru hole bridges. I like that big bridge, same my old Sterling had minus the mutes

Thanks - this was unexpected as I was told by UPS it had been moved to Monday, but they showed up at lunch time!! Not too long to wait, for you. It’s a really nice bass - I’m sure you’ll be pleased when it arrives.
With the pads? My 96 had the place for mute pads but no pads/knobs, like this - (I always wondered what they were, if I would have known I would have gotten the mute kit lol)
(BTW this site has about every bridge, pretty interesting how they changed)
