As much as the "BileBurst" the originals can become nauseates me, I like the grey burst much better especially with the covers.

New Fender Antigua models...

As much as the "BileBurst" the originals can become nauseates me, I like the grey burst much better especially with the covers.
I just finished putting on my daddario chrome flats and this antigua sounds as GREAT as any Fender P I've played....Outstanding.
And for anyone who does not like the color who cares!. I have twins and it reminds me of their baby sh*t, before they had "big mouths"....Good times

Why Fender really pisses me off, chapter 26. I swear I only have to deal w this crap when I buy Fenders. Little stuff, but frustrates the hell out of me.
They include 2 allen wrenches with bass. The one for the neck is way too thick. I don't have an allen wrench that fits the bullet in the headstock, so now I have to find out what size it is (don't have a clue how), and figure out where I'm going to get one, or call Fender customer service and see if they'll send me one. And I'll have to wait. I wanted badly to use this bass tomorrow, but I want to adjust the neck. And I can't.
Also, the tone control knob isn't flush with plate. Is that normal? I don't remember it being like that on any other jazz bass I owned. You can clearly see the entire nut underneath. The volume controls look normal. Please tell me if this is normal for the tone control. Is it sit a bit higher on the post than the others. The other allen wrench doesn't fit the knob, so I can't see if that can be dropped any more either.
Top all this off with the fact that when I went to tighten the G string, it snapped right off. I though it was a busted string, but thankfully it just wasn't wound properly.
This is the Fender quality control I've come to love so much.
This rant over for now. I'll post the things I like once I get past my frustration. :/

I didn't get any hallen key with my jazz... Can't tell you the exact size but the best fit for the bullet trost rod is a 'standard' key (I think it's 1/8"), and a metric key for the string height!
The tone knob is ALWAYS like that (not flush) on any J-Bass.

OK. I'm over it. I'll get an allen wrench somehow and take some of the bow out of the neck.
What I think is great about this bass:
I love the finish. Great paintjob. Looks like a light greyish green. The darker part is the exact same color as the shoelaces that broke on my favorite sneakers that I can't find replacements for. Absolutely love the shiny neck and fretboard. No sharp frets. No dead notes. Pretty much like everything about this bass. Output is kinda low, but I expected that. What I'm loving most about this in a twisted kind of way is that it does seem a whole lot like the two 70s jazz basses I've played around with. Lower output on the bridge pickup, have to fiddle around a lot between the 2 pickups to find the sweet spots. Maybe that's standard fare for a J bass, I can't really say. Seems a lot different than the Highway One though. I prefer this tone control to the grease bucket. It's a bit more gradual and natural sounding to my ears. Tomorrow it'll get the band test. I'm a little nervous, concerned about thinness... but I'm going to be patient and approach it knowing it's a completely different animal than what I'm used to. I think I'm gonna be happy.

thanks for the tip. what size. or should i take my bass in and have the kind sales person who will be so happy to help me find the perfect fit? or drop $15 on a set when I only need one, and it should have come with the bass.

I'm not sure on that bass, and my Jazz with a bullet truss nut isn't with me right now to check (if it's even the same size - 90's MIJ). Maybe someone with one of those can check for you real quick.
A set of hex wrenches are a great set of tools to have around, though, especially if you setup your own instruments. Additional sizes may come in handy in the future.

I have about 50 hex wrenches, including 2 T wrenches, always set up my own basses (have owned over 100), and never ran into this problem before. My point with this whole thing is it's a simple thing that Fender should just take care of before shipping these out. Why include wrenches that don't fit? It's a waste for them, and makes it so we can't use these things to our liking without jumping through some additional hoops, or dropping a few extra bucks. I"m calling them tomorrow. The bass is playable, I just like my action lower, and I know it can be dropped still quite a bit. There's a lot more bow in the neck than I keep on my other basses

Perhaps Fender is truly stepping up their game in every respect.
Diggin the bass, by the way. As mentioned before I'm not typically a Fender guy, and especially not a Jazz bass kind of person. I'm used to a single volume plus a blend control. Fiddling around with the 3 knobs I'm pretty astounded by the versatility going on here. Tone shaping with this bass seems almost like an art in itself. Can't wait to get it into a band setting.
Feel the need to mention once more - this thing looks freekin awesome.

I've personally checked out a dozen of these before they were shipped to customers, along with dozens of other Fenders in the past month and haven't found any issues like those. I've had one with mystery buzz from a badly cut nut and have had to adjust intonation on a handful. Otherwise they've been coming out of the box ready to play. Did the place you bought it from check it out before they shipped it?
Just a question (and I mean no disrespect); but you are a guy and you don't have a set of Allen wrenches!?!?!

On a side note - I checked my 75 Jazz (I keep the wrenches in the case) and honestly, I have no clue what size the damn wrench is.....

Remember that this is coming from a guy that lost his flippin mind the last time that we went to McDonalds and they screwed up my order for about the ninth time. It was touch and go on someone dialing 911 for a while.
That said, I concur that the wrench should have been correct. Still, it sounds like CS did their job in a satisfactory manner.
My P and J are still in my office, in the dark..........all alone. Havent even got to unpack them yet. Busy with customers. Then had to run home. Now company in town for the Travers concert tonight. I guess I will see them Monday.

I miss the good old days of having little responsibility back when I was a young pup. Those simple days consisting of playing in (what was fondly referred to as) 7/8 time.
