New Fender Bass?

Yes.... and no

Yes:
  • Well...it sounds massive - like a P bass with three testicles - and would fit ANY style of music that I'd want to play.
  • I dig the retro minimalist vibe.
No:
  • It's slightly underdone IMO: If that upper 'horn' had been extended by an inch - a la Mustang - with a half-inch reduction in the width of the lower bout where it meets the neck pocket, the visual proportions would've worked much better for me. That coupled with a big '51-57 P-bass style scratch plate and I think it would've ticked all the boxes.

are not that hard to find, nor are Kay or Dano bodies. Nor are necks. Just roll your own for cheaper.

I agree. Resurrecting my favorite "yard sale" Silvertone Model 1444 didn't cost me much at all.
