New Fender Player 2 Modified Series

A MP2 Precision arrived today. Setup out of the box was good. The frets feel a tiny bit to long, mayber the neck wood shrinked a bit during the storage.
From the looks it is what is is, simply a black P bass. The purple from the "Dusk"finish is very subtle on this one.
The bass sounds surprisingly "fresh" and clear on its own, Very punchy. I like both sounds- the passive and the active one. The electronics are like I think it should be. The active mode allows you to dial in some bass and mids, but in a way you could do with a good amp too. The actual bassic sound stays the same in the active mode, only equilized. So I really like the bass and I will keep it. I think, the "yellow" one of the line is more "attractive" , but my wave band will like the black one better ;-)
I will play the bass in that band with a pick and it sounds cool, - the p-only and the P/J style. For me it is 4 sounds in one bass. Passive P, active P and passive PJ plus active PJ. I personally don't know anybody, who will use the "J" Pickup alone, there is a Jazzbass version for sounds like that.
Neck is very comfy and fretboard and neck look very nice. I think, this Mexican Fender is a really good Fender. Half the price of the actual American Ultra 2 (?)
- I tried that bass in a store too and at least for me, it is not twice as good as the Player 2. I look at it as a very good workhorse. Having a Fender with some knobs is nice to have but a replacement pickguard to customize your bass will be a bit more expensive, because I don't think Fender will be offering spacey spare parts for that model. Even it is "only" a Mexican Fender I recommend to test it and give it a try!
(And sorry for my English for it is not my mother tongue..) ;-)

Reviving an old thread here... as Im in need of some information with power to the preamp of the Player II Modified. Ive searched everywhere and from what Ive seen is that the preamp is 18V? Ive seen reviews that says it but Fender specifications doesnt really state it? I know its a 2 battery setup but that doesn't necessarily mean its 18V going to the preamp (it can be wired parallel as a dual 9 volt setup). Does anyone have any pics of the battery compartment or even better, whats under the pick guard (I know its a lot to ask).

Reason why I ask is that I have all the electronics from the 2025 Player II Modified and I want to install it in my American Deluxe. I want the passive and tone control that the deluxe dont have and the Player II Modified ticks all the boxes for me. Is it really sending 18V to the preamp cause from just looking at my wiring harness it tends to point that this is a dual 9V setup. So Im questioning if this is a true 18V preamp or just another Fender hype. Maybe Fender is converting the 2-9V to 18V at the preamp but I doubt that since its just easier to wire it in series as 18V. I posted in the pickup/electronics section but maybe I'll have better responses here. Any help is appreciated and TIA!

Here is my project:
Fender’s manual for basses says that if there are two batteries, it is 18v.

First band rehearsal tonight with the MP2Mod. I am really impresssed. The active circuit gave me exactly the abillity to dial in what was needed. I must admit, that I am not a big fan of the "normal" Precision Bass, but the PJ-config and the active circuit sound very good. The neck plays really good and it cuts through the mix... lovely. I finally found my Fender.

Because of the lack of more reports I think, the Player II Modified is not revieved very well ? :-D I do understand that this model is not the first choice for traditional bass players. On the other hand this is the reason why I like it so much, the active electronics sound really good, adding something modern to the old style sound of a Precision Bass.

Well none of the physical stores seem to carry them so that's not helping, I've been looking to try one out but I don't want to drive 2 hours to do so. Online it doesn't seem like they got much promo and there aren't that many good demos of it, Fender's demo is probably one of the worst as per usual lol, could ya get any more one dimensional and uninspiring!?

I saw people saying that this is basically Fender's answer to the Marcus Miller Sire, how popular is that bass?

As a guy with Jazz Bass, I have been lusting after the P-Bass version of these for months now...PJ + Active ability seems like a pretty decent swiss army knife bass. Wish the white color wasn't pearl, but I'm sure I could live with it :P

Yes, it is 18V... I figured out how the wiring works. When you plug the 1/4" cable in, a switch closes and connects the 2 batteries together to create the 18V in one of the wiring harness. If anyone needs the more information just let me know.
I have bought one and suddenly a static noise occurs under the following conditions:
Active / Pasive , When adjusting the knobs in all possible Volume and Tone combinations and when bringing a hand close to the pickups, with the instrument connected to the amplifier and not being played.

Do you know why? I have sent to the warranty for the second time in 2 months.

I can't help with that problem, I am sorry. Hope, your bass is fine now. I switched the jack for a better one, because the cable started to sit a bit loose in the old one. Besides that, it is still a killer bass with a killer tone.
