New Fender Player 2 Modified Series

Oh, yeah, I'd be happy with this.
Just a guess, but I'm thinking the new preamp is better than the ones that went before it.
Being able to go passive is nice, too.

Didn't the player plus series have all these features? Three band eqs with the switch, high mass bridge, etc...
You are correct.

Nothing much as far as I can see that separates them, other than more models, more colors, new name. I do still think it's a whole new line since they've now got both lines up on their site, and they're separated.
But they might ofcourse just let player plus fade away silently, or there might be some features on the new mod line that I've yet to notice.

Either way, I'm happy they're making new stuff, I wasnt expecting anything else this year after what came from NAMM. But these are kinda boring models, IMO. I guess they're trying to just establish yet ANOTHER intermediate/mid level bass to cater to all the people that are shopping outside the Fender line.

Good for them, but I'm still hoping for some more "vintage modern" models with great paint jobs:)

Totally. And if not, they’ll be discounted until they become desirable.
I think it's excellent that a 3-band preamp is coming stock on a Jazz.

Had the need for me to have a bass tuned to D standard still existed, I'd at least be giving these serious consideration. I am more sorry that this bass would probably just be sitting around collecting dust if I had one.

I like the yellow and the green, pretty cool colors. I have the Player Plus in Silver Smoke and these newer Plus II models pretty much seem the same. Mine has the three band EQ, Passive Switch, Hi Mass Bridge, Rolled Frets and the neck even looks roasted although I don't see that published anywhere. So if the Plus II has the tone control in passive mode, that may be the only change as well as the new colors. If that's the case it should still be a very nice bass. I really like mine a lot.

No. This Modified version has a passive tone control the Player Plus didn't have. It has rosewood fretboard the Player Plus didn't have. It has rolled edged the Player Plus (supposedly) didn't have, and some other small improvements as noted in the product description. It's not a revolutionary upgrade of the Player Plus. It's an evolutionary one. Whether these refinements add up to an incremental improvement that makes someone pull the trigger on this one, versus the Player Plus... is up to the buyer.

Playr Plus actually has roll fretboard edge. She also has Active/Passive switch.

The different between Player plus and Player II Modified are passive tone control , Tusq nut ( nothing special actually ), tapered tuning post, 9.5' vs 12' fretboard radius, different head stock decal .

Honestly, for me, the selling point on this New Player II Modified are sexy Yellow color.

This bass player ,who look a like Jeff Goldblum , and demo this New PJ bass ...... sadly, just ruin the GAS who wanna purchase this bass.

The player plus PJ bass on demo sound much better and sound like BASS !!!!

That's what I was trying to say as owner of a Player Plus and interested potential future buyer of the Player II Modified. But the fretboard is Pau Ferro on the Player Plus and Rosewood on the Player Modified. For some that is a significant change. For me, not so much. Again, I'd characterize the changes as "evolutionary" or "incremental"...

I’m personally not a huge fan of active basses but I’m curious to get some real feedback on these basses if anyone gets some hands on time with these. I do love that yellow, and the green. Dusk looks interesting too.

I can’t really tell on that Dusk color. Almost looks maybe a kind of purple. Would have to see that in person. Hate that on the Jazz it’s paired with rosewood. Would look better with maple fretboard.

The harvest green looks freakin nice. Wish they offered Jazz width nuts on the P bass, though…
Agreed, the green is awesome.

I still don’t understand Fender’s reasoning behind the lack of basses with J-width on a P. Currently the only way to get it is the cheapest Squier or maybe going to Fender Custom Shop. What about the middle of the road guys?

I rarely ever enjoy Fender's demos of their basses. The basses look great and are recorded well, but the players and how they demo the basses leave a LOT to be desired...
