new fender precision bass classic 70's

As I posted in the other thread (where it was mistakenly said to be a Pawnshop series), this seemed to be a fairly popular mod in the late 70s/early 80s. Watch VH1Classic when they're actually showing 'classic' videos, and you'll see a bunch of bassists who put the BNB maple jazz neck on their sunburst Ps. (Ian Hill from Judas Priest in the 'Heading out to the Highway' video comes to mind, but I've seen a few other bassists from that era with it, and all of them seemed to use sunburst P bodies...Go figure)
Of course, I can't see why they're using the current neck specs on a 'Classic' series bass though...
In that video, Ian Hil is in fact playing a Fender Jazz, not a P-bass.
On further review, I stand corrected..
Now, for my inital list of excuses -
he's playing over the bridge pickup obfuscating it...
And
I try and avoid looking at the groinal area of men in leather pants and thus did not notice the pickguard shaping and the lower bout shaping on the bass.

I just bought two pristine perfectly playable-right-out-of-the-box MIM P Standards for summer road work. I wonder how much Fender has jacked up the price for the block and bound version. I couldn't find it on MF or GC yet.
Price.
Seeing that this P bass is a Classic Series more than likely it's MIM.
The price should fall right around $749 to $849. The 50's P sells for $749 & the 70's jazz is $849.
I'm assuming they deduct $50 for only 1 PU but add $50 for the blocks. so...$799. IMO.

You're probably right.
And that is a deal breaker for me. That's nuts. It's a MIM Standard with blocks and binding. How is that a $200.00 premium over the Standard?

Isn't the entire Classic Series line from Fender MIM? There is always a chance it could be CIJ though.
If that had 1.5" nut width, I'd be all over it.

FYI - That was my thread and I did not "mistakingly" call the 70's P-bass a Pawnshop bass. In fact, for several days there were 2 links on the Fender website. One for a "70's Precision Bass Nat" and another for a "'72 RW Pawnshop Bass". That was the point of the thread. It has since been removed from their site. And now we have these and the Blacktop basses.
FWIW, its always good to have your facts together before calling someone out.

I really like the looks of the burst one but I wish they would have done a jazz nut, a DiMarzio Model J in the 70's position and a Badass. That would have been a true 70's Classic.
Also, the burst one would look pretty cool with a cream pickup cover. Very 70's!

That was the post I was referencing. I know the Pawnshop bass was listed on Fender's site, and I'd been watching it intently as well. (and wasn't it listed as a Pawnshop Jazz, anyway?)In short... I didn't call you out. But if it suits your ego to think so... Go for it.
Yes, there were some Precision Basses made in the '70s with black blocks and an 'A' profile (Jazz Bass) neck and the Precision Bass logo - not very many though, I'm sure.
There's a picture of one in The Fender Bass' book (Link ...), in Charcoal Frost (metallic black) and with a white p/g. It might have been a custom order, I suppose
