I found a picture of the Pawnshop Jazz in the Fender EBrochure. Looks great guys.

Holy hell, correct me if I'm wrong but thats a '59 prototype jazz bass.
With that pickup it has to be, but I'd have me doubts as to whether that blocked and bound neck with the dark paint job on the back is part of the original set-up.
If this mythical pawnshop bass is anything close to a '59 prototype jazz they'll be fighting me off at the fender factory...
Your[sic] wrong ,[sic] the inlays and binding were not around in 59 ,[sic] thats not even a fender bass in the photo
Yeah I agree with the neck not being from a '59, but the soapbars and the V/V/T wiring speak to it being a '59 prototype.
Why do you say it isn't even a fender bass? I guess that thumb-rest is jankey looking, but the only other picture I've been able to dig up of a '59 prototype has the same neck pickup only with 5 staggered pole pieces, not the 4 in this photo (both types were made and tested).
Information and pictures on the '59 prototypes are very hard to come by so if you know something I don't please share. I'm on a hunt to recreate one someday.
The only thing that might get my money is if Fender offers an F-hole P Bass. The only ones I've seen are Japanese, rare, and expensive. Or Warmoth, again, expensive. Yes, it's purely aesthetic, but that drives alot of us.
Time was when they called that "having a little fun" back before everybody got so cynical about everything![]()
Yeah I agree that bass isn't a fender, I just got excited because I thought I had a good picture of a '59.
Not the '59 Dealer-model/prototypes you showed me in your picture, but the one in this picture.

It's the only picture I've ever seen of it.
I'm all about 'having fun' - but there is a difference between "buying something" and "having fun".
Here's some irony: Fenderistas will gasp in horror if you take a old P-bass and slap a funky p'up in the bridge position or put a EB-0 pickup in the neck - but they are champing at the bit to get their hands on these "Pawn Shop" basses which are modeled after hacked up old Fenders...
Very odd.
