Exactly! Now a whole new generation can have all the fun of ripping a stock bass apart and ruining it with all of the (awful ) 'upgrades' that you've just listed !

it does have a parts bass vibe to it, ironically enought i was going t build one like the sunburst in a PJ.

i like them, curious to see how they feel and play. having a blocked and bound neck thats not a jazz width sounds weird to me.

Looks cool, the white one really does it. I agree it should have a brass nut, and maybe the cover holes on it. If they play and sound as good as the RW series it sould be a good bass.

This is the one I wish I would have got.

I have the MIJ 70's Jazz in P/J config. Love the look and sound, but really want the P-bass neck. When I bought it, it was the only block/binding bass they offered with a P-pickup.

It's a helluva nice bass, but wish it had a p neck.

This one is super hot looking, but - other than aesthetics - overall my impression is 'why bother?' The Blacktops at least offer a real variation and what looks to be a much better bridge.

I mean all they did was take the MIM, and added blocks (doesn't even look like it has binding). Plus, to me, I've always thought blocks on a pbass looks silly. Though I find a couple exceptions, this isn't one. YMMV

Obviously, as we all agree, this is a pretty subjective thing. I love the looks of the blocks on my Lakland Duck Bass, which is basically just a P-Bass with a Jazz neck.

Sure, rosewood with mother-of-pearl is different from maple with black, but I think it looks pretty cool. In fact, I'd be a degree happier with my Duck if it were 1-5/8" at the nut, like this new Fender...or even 1-3/4" with a 7-1/4" radius.

Oh well...can't have everything.

I think the rosewood makes it work for this bass. And the white blocks against the brown, black and red. See, for this bass it works! For the new fenders... not so much

I think the reason is doesnt work aesthetically is because we are not used to seeing a p width neck with blocks. I think the color scheme is fine. Quite nice actually. Better than the American Specials (they should have put maple with white and RW with CAR). If these new basses had b'nb'd jazz necks then they would look mo better.

It is. It's a P-bass neck with blocks and binding. That's what I like about it.

The first thing I thought of was Duck Dunn's old P-Bass.

This i kind of funny, because I have a sunburst Fender MIK P-bass Special that I love, but want to switch to the 1.5"/9.5R J-Bass neck (my P is 1.6" with a FLAT 15" radius!). We are AllParts dealers, and I was messing with the idea of using the maple/black block J-Bass neck they have, but now that I see it, I'm not all THAT knocked out, especially for the extra $$$ it costs, even wholesale. I think I'll stick with dots.
