Interesting news! I wonder how many watts RMS this new 15" cab will be rated for? As has been said, most 15's are shoehorned into cabs that are way too small and the driver winds up choked of real low-bass response; I"m glad the cab will be large.
I own a B212 and love it; I do think it's a little lacking in "snap/punch" though. I bought the B212 with the plans of later adding a B210 on top. If Avatar would've offered the 15'er, I'd have bought that instead, and added the 210 later. Bass amplification should always have bowel-movement-inducing low-bass output...what better than a 15"? Two 15's'?

From what I've read here from the engineering crowd, the 15" Eminenance speakers are designed to work in smaller boxes, and are not recommended for use in my 4 cubic foot EV cab as a replacement
Not sure how that would work with something as large as a 4x10 cabinet but the thinking doesn't seem consistent
How scientific are Avatar cabs relative to what other designers are doing these days (Bergantino, Acme, Bill F, Fearful, LDS, etc.)

Judging from the (lack of) science behind his 15/10, not a lot. However, he offers cabs at a price point that really doesn't require good science.
Me too. I thought the 410 I owned was way too big and not deep enough.Sounds intriguing to me, I was lookin at a 212 but now im not sure. All I know is I need somethin smaller than this big ol 610 I been lugging around.
It's my understanding that Dave works with folks at Eminence to design the cabinets. Beyond that, I suspect that the design is fine tuned by Avatar to achieve the sound that they're looking for.
IMO, Avatar cabs are a really good value. Price vs. performance really can't be beat. They're solidly built and use good materials (3/4" birch ply) and drivers (Eminence). What's not to like? I don't see the point in paying 3x the price for a Bergatino or similar.

The Berg does have a few costlier componets. The crossovers and horns they use are top-notch for example. Are they worth the additional cost, that's up to the players ears. I myself haven't a problem with the crossover and horn that Avatar uses.
This'll get me flamed, but IMHO, "most" of the differences between Avatar cabs and other same quality, commerically made cabs on the market are in the cosmetics.................and the price!
For me, what's not to like is the way cabs were built in the 70's which was to install some speakers in a wooden box and hope for the best. Of course, powerful home computers didn't exist then nor did the software to design an enclosure that was tuned for best case performance with a given set of parameters. I'm not so sure that manufacturers were really able to measure and evaluate their drivers that accureatly back then.
I never would have believed that well engineered bass cabinets could really be worth big money until I tried an Acme and then a Berg.
the 15 is an enimence driver, something LF forgot what he said but not 3015 i,d remebered that, but he did say rated 500w.
No offense, but have you ever played out of a Berg? It sounds incredible compared to the Avatar.

Nope, never played a Berg...I'm pretty much a n00bie bass player. Been playing guitar though for 20+ years so I've got some experience with cabs in general.I do know that how good an enclosure sounds/measures involves two things. The driver (quality/construction) and the cabinet (non-flexing/proper size/port/damping). Assuming you have a decent driver and build the cab to spec you should have a great sounding cab. Avatar's cabs are designed by Eminence, as far as I know. So one would think that they are "as ideally designed" as they could be. How true that is, I do not know. The cabs are most definitely built to a price point, so fit and finish wise I know they don't compare too favorably to cabs costing 2x-3x more.
To someone either with the money or has the need (a professional musician) spending $2K on a 2x12 cab is justifiable. I am/have neither so to me, getting 90% of the sound at a third the price is more my style.
Hopefully someday I'll have the pleasure of playing through a Berg or a similarly priced cab.
