For a change from the flurry of "it sucks" comments, I actually kind of dig the thing. The headstock should definitely be wider (all the strings look crammed together), but the string spacing looks good for those of us with stubby fingers. I'd love to play one in a store. I'm not sure why the tuning seems to be a big deal, though. Ten seconds with a tuner and you have any of the alternatives people have proposed. It seems to me like complaining that a guitar designed for metal doesn't come in drop D from the factory. Eh, whatever. Looks like fun. I'm a bit skeptical about a low B string on a short scale, but I'll reserve judgement until I can actually play one. I would have designed it to have a 32" scale if it were me, but that's me and I'm weird.
Hahaha, the guy in that video said Pol Pot. Honestly that thing looks cool. Probably a tapping machine.
You could easily tune the top string to F and have it in all fourths
but i couldn't get past the spacing or scale...

Too bad he didn't give a good demonstration of it, it was almost as if he had no idea what to do with it. He says that it a combination of guitar and bass and then plays some lame 2 hand rifff.

how about you change the scale length to 34", make the string spacing 19mm, take 3 strings off, make the tuning E-A-D-G take about $1000 off the MSRP and have it endorsed by Geddy Lee, and then i will buy it
Also, I want to live in a thatched roof hut, have no electricity or plumbing and have to hunt/gather for sustenance.
i like me a fat girl but i draw the line at ug-oh's. functionality is great but its not very attractive
I'd love to play it. I already play a 7 string but I feel that the spacing and scale length would be helpful with a light touch, Garrison style right hand.

what you guys are seeing, is a little error made. See this link, this is the Ibanez site and the tuning for the guitar. Mind you the SR7VII is only on the japanese Ibanez site...

I'd like to try it too but I'm pretty sure this will be a special order item. I don't think any stores plan to stock it.
I'm not totally sure but I believe I saw one of these at a local store up in Middletown, NY. Unless Ibanez carries another 7 string?
I got to check one out the other day. As someone who plays both 6 string bass and guitar, the fact that the bottom 5 strings are tuned the way I'm used to on bass and the top 6 strings are tuned like a guitar means I already have all the scale/chord patterns down. I generally use a pick, and have a relatively narrowly spaced 6er (15 mm), but it was a bit a bit of a tight squeeze for me at first. The scale was very comfortable and a good compromise for playing guitar shaped chords. The low B sounded surprisingly good, and the general tone was pretty modern. Overall, it was a really fun instrument, and I was very thankful that I have no band that it would be appropriate for or I'd have to try to figure out how to get one!
