new gibson and epiphone basses coming out

I never sound Tbirds sound bad, but they do have a few design issues. Some they've remedied and a lot they haven't. The 69 had a lot of intonation issues and constantly slid from true and it was a brick. The fact that I had to hold it up meant it was harder to run around the neck and I developed a severe pain in the underside of my forearm from holding this thing up on 2 hour gigs or 8 hour rehearsals.

The 64 balanced a lot better and the pickups weren't as hot. It was a nice enough bass. However, unlike a Fender, you can't use your headstock as a whammy bar for when you do harmonics!:rolleyes:

Really? John Entwistle was an 8th note bassist? :confused:

I have two '76 Tbirds (one I've owned for 30 years, since it was new) and don't have a problem with neck dive. And I'm not a "8th note rock bassist".

You don't have to insult people just because they like something you don't.

Since you've decided to not actually read my posts, I guess I'll have to spell everything out for you.:rolleyes:

I didn't say I didn't like them, so I don't know where you're getting that from.:confused: I'm also not insulting anyone either last I checked, its a simple statement and why people say that T-Birds are tonally limited. I'm not saying I agree with that but I think that conception comes from the majority of TBird players being 8th note rockers. Show me a handful of, say, jazz players who use T-Birds and I'll retract that statement. If not, well, tough noogies as they say.;)

And The Ox used a Fender Precision neck on his T-Bird since he couldn't stand the Thunderbird neck. In my opinion that disqualifies him since you've just taken away half of what makes a Thunderbird a Thunderbird and its now dubbed the Fenderbird.

If you want to have good intonation the 3 point bridge is crap. I never said the stock Fender bridge was great either, but it is a better design. The 3 point bridge is a crappy design since the windings rest on the saddles which prevent the best intonation one can get from a fretted instrument. A good setup goes a long way to fix that, but its not a permanent solution since they have a habit of going out of tune on every Gibson bass I've owned.

He played a regular Tbird on the Quadrophenia album, then had the Fenderbirds made (which were custom made and didn't use an actual Tbird body, just the pickups/electronics were real Gibson).

“…by ‘Quadrophenia’ and Who By Numbers I was playing Gibson Thunderbirds. I felt I was getting stuck in a rut, using all the treble. So I changed to Sunn Colosseum[sic: Coliseum] power amps and a German preamp called a Stremp[sic: Stramp], and took up with the Thunderbirds. Eventually I found that I had developed a new playing style, then discovered Alembic basses and went back to playing with treble. I go backwards and forwards like that all the time.”

I've never had that kind problem with my 3 points, I don't do my own set ups, I leave that to Mr. Lull, they all intonate and play great - low action and good sustain, all I need from a bridge.
Showdown, I do remember ya from the 'pit! join us over here

Mike Lull does great work, he set up my EB2 when I had it. Should've had it done sooner as that was the only time it sounded halfway decent!:p

FWIW Chris Squire often plays a late 60's 'Bird too,not your typical 8th note guy.

to all those people calling gibson and epiphone crap..nice biased opinions :)

i don't think fender is better than gibson,nor do i think gibson is better than fender. and to that one guy, i dont think epiphone is bad enough to the point where it deserved to have gas poured on it and burnt in a little pile.common. theres been worse. either way im shutting up about the whole argument for real this time.
