New Gibson EB bass

I just compared a 2013 and 2014. The 2014 does have a smoother finish. On the 2013 you can see (at certain angles) and feel some of the ridges in the wood, while that's not really the case on the 2014.

I'd say I prefer the 2013 for this extra character, but it's such a minor difference on the two I compared that to me there's effectively no difference. Especially if you factor how easily these thin finishes ding or show play wear, which is another aspect I adore that many deplore, there'll be character to your bass no matter which model year it is provided you put much effort into playing it.
