New GK 800 Legacy!

Does anyone else use it with trim maxed and do volume adjustments with the master?
What tone differences do you get by turning down the trim? I go by the manual and that's what it recommends.

Just AB’d my L800 & MBF500 through my Neo 115, found with everything set at 12oclock the MBF500 was thicker and a considerable amour louder. I thought this strange given the higher rating of the L800 and both being GK’s. Checked the switches on the back of L800 and it was set on 8 or 4 ohms. Would anyone care to share their thoughts or experiences? View attachment 3665550

I'm no expert on the subject but I think the first input stage on the Legacy is way different than the MB series. It even mentions in the manual you can set this control all the way up.

Try raising the trim control and see if this changes things. I use mine set fairly high.

I'm sure this has been asked a zillion times by page 35, but can the Legacy 800 cop the tones of the 1st gen 400RB? I love my 400RB but considered moving on to the lighter newest version.

For comparison sake, I do not think my MB Fusion 500 sounds quite like the 80's 400RB. Does the L800 come closer?

If I could have my 80's 400RB in a smaller feature-rich package that would be sweet.

Ive just ordered a L800, to replace my MB800 (in to a Berg CN212). Cant wait, although I’m not sure what to expect. Ive read mention of a HPF being part of the circuitry. Can anyone tell me what freq its set at?

I’m a bit of a frequency freak - anyone here know affected frequencies for L800 Bump & Presence switches, and the frequency sweep of the OD Edge knob?

Dont know if this has been covered but does the L800 have the huge low end that the MB800 has or is it more like the 800RB

I had a 400RB for many years, the L800 is a good newer version of it but not exact, the 400 to me was a little more aggressive that I can remember, I might actually be getting it back from the guy I sold it to..

I getting PMed About the frequencies.

To be honest I don’t know what it is, I just know what sounds awesome and cuts through the mix.

Flat with the lowend bump and dailing back the highs a smidge.

Enjoy the L800, my personal favorite amp ever.

I can get my 400rb tone out of L800 with just a touch of drive...It’s a 400 with a lot more power, smaller and lighter.

I can see why GK sold out of a couple of batches already.

I was playing at home today, so in a very quiet environment, and going by GK’s instruction about winding the Trim right up i was getting quite a lot of hiss. This makes sense to be as the higher the gain, the higher the noise. Just find it strange GK advise us to do this. I doubt its a problem with live work, but it seemed to be more than with my other head’s.

There must be hiss. It’s impossible not to have it with the Trim maxed out IMO. I have 5 heads and all do it to some extent. Maybe my cab is more open sounding than yours?

Well turning that down helps, but it also changes the tone as well so that’s not a solution. As i said, I normally get some hiss anyway, its fine, but the Legacy seemed to have more of it, and I’m sure its only because of the Trim was right up. It will never be an issue in a live environment.

I gigged my L800 with a Mesa Subway 15 and 12 with the EHX Bass Soul Food pedal always on this weekend, it was huge!!!
