New GK Plex Preamp

Yeah sorry. I meant voice setting 5 bypasses the tone shaping of the PLEX. More specifically, the eq section. The compressor is still coloring the tone.

So, voice setting 5 basically disables all 4 EQ knobs, not just for EQ'ing but also the bump, contour, hi cut and presence features.

The little book says "EQ and voice filters". I'm assuming "voice filters" is referring to the features available through the EQ knobs. Would that be safe to say?

Yeah, exactly. The voice filters are specifically the amp sims available through the master knob, and the EQ bumps and contours are secondary features available through the EQ knobs. So, voice setting 0 leaves out any amp sims from coloring your tone further, but leaves the EQ available to tailor your tone (bumps and contours included) while voice setting 5 will cut out the EQ entirely in addition to the sim feature.

Just a heads up to Plex users..in a few days I am going to post an ad for a GK 112 MPB . I was selling it as a stack with the combo, but 1/2 the deal fell through (the one with this powered cabinet). It works great with the Flex, and is really light too. I will post the ad on Friday/AM, so if you have any interest at all, please PM me. I am thinking about $175. MUCH prefer a local Chicago sale, and can drive a ways to meet S Wisconsin players.

After reading most of this post (took a few days) I just got my Plex last weekend. I use a Genz Benz ShuttleMax 9.2 in my home practice room. Going straight into the GB and flattening it out as much as possible I get a good strong signal, but a little muddier than I prefer. Going into the effects return the output is very weak. I've tried adjusting the trim, but I play active basses, so it clips if I turn it up too much. I end up turning the master on the Plex and on the GB all the way up to get a decent volume, but it's nowhere near usable. I plan on using my Crown XLS 1500 for live shows, but I'm concerned that the output level of the Plex is too low. Does anyone know what the output voltage is for the Plex? I feel like I'm missing something as weak signal doesn't seem to be an issue with these.

What is the serial number of your unit?

Any word on another firmware update?

Next update is still a few weeks out. It will include:
1. Ability to store custom settings using the voice function.
2. Improved tuner sensitivity. Also exit tuner mode will only require one click.
3. Ability to move EQ to before or after the Overdrive.
4. Adding some cabinet simulations to the HI-CUT function.
5. We are also looking at adding the ability for the user to enter a service mode that would allow the custom adjustment of parameters like compressor Attack and Release times. This is an involved function and will take some time to complete.

Oh. Those are very awesome additions! I can't wait. Looks like the GK Plex is going to be the best standalone preamp I ever have.

Thanks for your patience.

This really is one of the best thought out products available, right now; can't wait to get the next update (but I can be patient ;)). @rag is there any way the development team would consider switching the double-tap for a long-press to engage the tuner? Or put it up for vote or something...?

We can do that and have discussed making that change. Let's see if others would like to see that update. We can add that to the next release if yu guys want it.

I built a new board around the PLEX and have been sending my post DI out to the FOH.

I use a splitter before the input of PLEX but it's after the effects to go to a GK amp.
This way I'm getting a GK tone to FOH but not stacking one preamp into the next for my backline rig.

I always wonder about these pedal preamps. For you guys that are familiar with most of these, aside from 'direct injection' (as the Brits would say) into the mains, what about the 'Travelling Light' department: Would these also go line-level to drive a power amp +cabs rig, or some of the powered cabinets like Bag End offers?
