I wonder if the OP is serious or just offering click-bait. I suspect the later because the answer is so obvious. TB is a great resource but sometimes it is abused and, with that, I am unwatching this thread.

Not click bait.

The house really is an impulse buy. My wife originally did not want to move to that city which is over an hour away from where we are now. Then she fell in love with this house. The price has dropped $40k since we first saw it which is making it more palatable.

When she saw the price drop, we made an appointment to see it, got qualified that day and put in an offer. I did put in the offer under their asking price.

If they accept, it's meant to be.

Firstly, this should be a no-brainer. Lake house.
Secondly, this should be a no-brainer. Happy Wife and a nice vacation spot.
Thirdly.... why on earth would anyone pay 12k for a bass? Yeah, there's a big difference between a $500 bass and one that's $2-3k... but after that, it's a waste of money.

The only way you should be able to justify a bass like that is if you were wealthy enough to not have to decide between a splurge vanity purchase and a second home.

Maybe I am cheap, but I just can't see putting that kind of money into an instrument. Even if it was my livelihood, I think it is unnecessary. A good bass can be had at a less than a quarter of the price. That is an amount that could be used better elsewhere.
OH... I ABSOLUTELY agree!!!! The ONLY Instrument I could ever justify that price for would be one of Chris Squire's PERSONAL STAGE USED instruments!!! That said, SOME boutique companies charge (and rightly are able to) absolutely LUDICROUS money!!! IE the afformentioned Wals! Roughly $20k and there is CURRENTLY a FOUR YEAR WAITLIST for a new one!!!!

So, my wife green-lit my dream bass. Deposit paid, balance is due... $12K

My wife found her dream lake house, deposit is paid, and now she wants to pivot and use the 12K for closing costs.

$1200 deposit will be lost...

We both agree that we don't want to touch savings because there are some minor upgrades that she wants to do to the house.

So... which stays... the lake house, or the bass?
I wise man once told me, "If mama ain't happy, ain't NOBODY happy".

Say hello to your dream house.

Wow, this thread reminds me of how about a year ago I was inches away from ordering a Ritter short-scale R8

They are beautiful things, but in this case I voted for the happy wife over the luxury art bass :bassist:
