New Ibanez (headless, multiscale)

Is there a consensus on how the low B sounds on the EHB 1*05MS basses compared to that on the parallel-fret 5-string SRs? My main reason for getting an EHB would be to improve the tone on the B string, so I'd appreciate hearing your thoughts on whether the extra inch of scale length or other factors help noticeably.

I've had a few premium SR five stringers and now the EHB all sound great in standard, the extra length I feel helps when you tune down. Other than that I personally find navigating the fretboard on the EHB easier than parallel frets. Much more comfortable for longer periods of time.

Well...when I heard that Ibanez discontinued the Tropical Seafloor and saw how rad the burl was on this top I couldn’t help myself. Anxiously waiting for it to make the trip from San Diego to up here in LA!

IME differences in scale length of only an inch or so are going to be subtle, at best.

Hi! From my perspective the low B isn't much improved vs a 34". The main benefit is the reduced scale of the high strings. The multiscale evens out tension, feeling and tone across all the strings.

I see. Thanks for the info!

Well holy hell..... bunch a TSFs flying off the shelves today. I just got one as well. I think they are getting pretty medium rare these days.

Stringing my PLF standard E-C (4ths, yay) and leaving the TSF B-G (more 4ths, yay).

Held out for a TSF for $1900 CAD (~$1500 USD) and..... got it. If anyone likes the pink 1005ms's (i was watching one) there are a couple reverb'n up here in canada that could probably be had for ~$1300 USD.

Before getting the 1505ms PLF I was watching lobsters video with the stock 1005ms, the agi 1005ms and the 1505ms, i was totally cheering for the 1505ms sound the whole time, then low (end) and behold, he ditched the 1505... what an absolute travesty, haha. For those on the fence between the 1005 and 1505ms units, it'd be so beneficial if you could try both. I liked the 1005ms look, feel and sound that i tried out at the shop, then went out on a limb, got the 1505 without trying it and absolutely loved it. It felt and sounded to me a big step up (never mind the claws dismissal of that stellar top, body and neck wood). But heck, if you cant play them both, you cant go wrong with either of em.

Lucas, post a shot of your beauties together when you get the TSF, ill do the same. I bought a zoom livetrak L12 today as well so man... gotta tighten up on the finances.

Whoops, gotcha. So the TSF is getting a new thump mate. They will look awesome together. Once my wife calms down I may look into the 6'er for the burly trifecta. But thats a ways off and i need time dialing in my 5'er style. Having a few problems with the right sound and technique when walking from the B string up to the G. Definitely jumped on the floating thumb within a few minutes of noodling on it.

The L12, right on. Ya I went to the store for a mackie proV12 and walked out with the zoom, quite a big upgrade for not a big price difference.

Go team EHB!

Has anyone put Dunlop Dual Designs on their EHB? It doesn’t look like there’s any screws to take the factory strap pins out. Do they just unscrew as a whole?
Yes, the included S-Locks strap pin could be undone as a whole using a 3mm Allen key.

Please tell us how the result goes. I meant to do the same thing on mine, cause all of my straps had the Dunlop Straplok attachment already. I haven't done it cause I have run out of Dual Design pins in black.

CAUTIONARY TALE.

So I guillotined two D strings in the past two weeks. The first one I thought might be the string, EB cobalts, and as disappointed as I was they're my favorite string so I ordered a new set. Grabbed the .65 and DID IT AGAIN!!!! Now I question the posts, so I unscrewed the set screw to find out that it's two pieces.

I examined the brass part that contacts the string to find it was pretty marred. My take on this is obviously its good that the metal is soft to bite the string, but bad for me as I was cranking it down a bit to offer or hard as I changed strings and caused a sharp edge. Luckily it smoothed out quickly and easily.
