New Ibanez (headless, multiscale)

I'm pretty sure I want the multiscale version (never played one of those before) but I'm still trying to decide between the 1005MS and the 1505MS. I really like the plain black (and cheaper priced) 1005MS but everyone says the 1505MS has way better pickups. However, I wasn't really impressed with any of the sounds I've heard from either bass on YouTube. In fact, I prefer the darker/mellow (some would say muddy/dull) Bartolini BH-2s.

I guess the people who demo these basses prefer the brighter tones of the Nordstrand Big Splits. I'd like to hear what those pickups sound like without all the high end bright clank. I don't play in a band or anything, so I don't need to worry about being heard in a mix. Decisions decisions...

Have you thought about the different fingerboard materials? Pickups can be swapped, and EQ settings can be changed to darken up a bright pickup, but you'll be stuck with the fingerboard material. I'm in no position to say which fingerboard material is "better" between the two, but I just wanted to raise the issue for consideration.

I haven't looked into that at all. Which one do you have?

I have the 1505MS. I think my only experience with maple is my Dingwall NG.

I was trying to find descriptions on how these different fretboards feel. They say panga panga is like wenge or ebony. The roasted birds eye maple...I couldn't find a good description as far as fretboards go. I haven't heard much or any complaints about either fretboard so that's good.

After hearing Low End Lobster's comparison video, I'm pretty much set on the 1005MS. I think the Big Splits can get closer to the BH-2s more than the BH-2s can get closer to the Big Splits, but I don't really like the brightness of the Big Splits anyway.

I liked how those Aguilars sounded more than the Big Splits and BH-2s. They sounded like the best of both worlds.

Is there a consensus on how the low B sounds on the EHB 1*05MS basses compared to that on the parallel-fret 5-string SRs? My main reason for getting an EHB would be to improve the tone on the B string, so I'd appreciate hearing your thoughts on whether the extra inch of scale length or other factors help noticeably.
