New Ibanez (headless, multiscale)

Anyone have a 1X05MS that they've strung E-C? I am getting a 1505MS-PLF next week (brand new $1900 CAD, bout $1500 USD), dont plan to change a thing other than tighten up any existing issues. If I like it as much as I think I will, thinking of getting an additional 1505MS-TSF and slinging it E-C with DR SSs (Med6 drop the B, use it on the PLF). Any foreseeable issues with lighter gauge strings (105 - 30)? Neck seems like a tank and would hold, hopefully someone has tried this and can chime in, suggest different strings if SSs are risky or just downright say "NFG, give your head a shake". Not so interested in the 1506MS, I can barely handle a 4'er, let alone a 5'er.

Lemme put it in super simple terms.

Ibanez=90s Honda's. Do what you want to it, it'll last for 300k miles with less than recommended maintenance.

Thought about that for sure, but for $300-400 more you can get the upgrade to the 1505MS and no real change in muscle memory swapping between the two (not to mention my OCD would go nutso bananas...) makes me think I want to stick with that series. The grey 1005sms looks super tite and tempting for the endeavor, but I think the wood and pups on the 1505ms-tsf would make me regret not getting it instead. And heck, the PLF and TSF hanging on the wall together would be absolute art..... ya i'm pretty into the visual aspect, and these basses look the part im lookin for. I'll check back in after a week with the 1505.... maybe the proposition gets shelved

For what it's worth, more folk have stuck with the 1005 than the 1505...

I have my EHB1505MS strung in D standard (D-A#) at the moment. No problems at all...I love it. I'm using Chromes FWIW.

I dont have it yet but the price for me was $1799 CAD for the 1005ms or $1899 CAD for the 1505ms, figured there was nothing i would have to do to the 1505, pickups, visually and wood character, i liked it more. The 1005 i would always be thinking about upgrading the pickups...

For a 100-CAD difference, I'd go with the 1505, too. Here, the difference is 450 USD. For that difference, if I don't like the BH2s on the 1005, I could get the Aguilar DCBs or custom Nordstrand big singles and still come out ahead. I'm leaning toward the 1005 (in seafoam green, obviously) right now.

I picked up a little zoom recorder yesterday. I'll record the Barts and then the Nords same settings. I'll do clean flat, scooped, rolled on rolled back and half way on neck middle Bridge.

I'll do both with my mini pedal board which is compressor, hyper luminal, and B7k with some dirty tones. Might take me all week to get it all recorded and edit it all together.

I'll do my best to give you guys a good variety to hear the differences. I'll use the DI from my ampeg combo bypassing the pre and only using the power amp and I'll hook up my Shure M57 on the cab. The I'll let the East Pre handle the shaping and try to give the best representation of the basses natural sound.

If anyone has some recommendations or requests lemme know by tonight and I'll do my best to accommodate.

Hey all!
I picked up an EHB 1505 today. Sounds and feels great, but it has roughly 20 tiny dimples on it, for lack of a better descriptive term. It appears these were painted over at the factory. Anyone else encounter this. I’ll try to take some pictures tomorrow, but I’m not sure they’ll photograph well however.
I can return it of course, but keeping it while obtaining a significant discount might be an option as well.

It's a burl top. The holes or other "imperfections" are a feature, not a bug. They are supposed to be there because it's taken from a piece of diseased wood. Some makers may seal these in behind a layer of laquer so you don't notice them, other makers will leave them as they are.

Interesting. I’m not informed on these matters, so I figured I should ask here. It almost resembles acne scars. Does that sound about right?
Thanks for the reply, btw.
Yep. Google burl top basses and you'll see many examples of basses that will have the holes in them. There is also a thread somewhere on talkbass that have people showing off their burl basses. I love the way it looks so that's why I have an appreciation for them.

Well hey, some thoughts....

Note: My thoughts are awfully mediocre at best and i dont have that ear or verbiage to articulate. My first ibanez, played around with store ones over the years. My musical tastes, 70% thrash metal, 10% chess records blues, 10% 80's cock rock, 10% outlaw country.

Well pretty darn sexy, except for those plastic knobs, those have to go.
Action, needs just a bit of relief or saddle downs, didnt get one of those dialed in factory ones
Neck, wow, love it, went from 5 years of 4 stringers to this, dug it right away and picked up on and preferred the ms
Tuners, super slick and quick

Playing, well, never had a bass like this. Played a 1005ms at the store, thought it was pretty good, but i liked the thought of the 1505ms better but the store didnt have one so i patiently waited for a deal and got a 2020 model at a 20% off discount. And for sure for me, i like the 1505ms a lot better.
Plugged it in, didnt work, fiddled around, it was on active without a battery, haha, too excited playing around to get a battery, left on passive, panned both pups, neck then bridge, i really liked just the bridge, swept the tone control, left it centered, put a mild tube patch on, tweaked the preamp and settled on GK, wow pretty sweet sound. Put the beat buddy on blues genre and just walked around and half ass slapped for the next hour. Never had that much fun freewheelin with other basses. Being the very non string connoisseur I am, my spidey senses told me this thing needs Bootzilla 130s.

Goods, sits awesome, light and balanced. looks great, killer neck, sounds phenomenal in passive (havent tried active)
Bads, friggin cable lock.... knobs seem out of place on such a beauty, easy enough but annoying to resolve
Minor grievance, i have a contoured back cut on my 4 string basses that sits really nice, this is a straight cut midway along the entire back, doesnt sit as nicely as my 4 stringers but so many other aspects destroy the 4 stringers

I'll plug away for a while and report back if i have anything of substance to contribute.
