Seriously -- the GuitarCenter.com website has the TMB30 as not being able to ship until 1/29. Are there other stores in the Baltimore area that have it available to try out?
Ones of my students just got one of these. It sounds really good, although the fretwork on her's isn't great. They certainly are pretty, though. And, as I said, nice tone. One interesting thing is that when I went to adjust the truss rod, none of my Allen wrenches (I have a set of both metric and SAE) fit the truss rod adjuster. Does anyone have any experience with this? Has Ibby moved to a non-standard size?
Dunno, but when I bought my Mikro, it came with all the necessary tools -- didn't your student's?
It probably did, but she's 13 and says it didn't so I'm assuming she lost it within 5 minutes of bringing the bass home

If her family still has the box it came in, the tools might be in a little plastic bag in there. That's how the tools for my Mikro showed up. Ibanez doesn't do a great job of drawing them to customers' attention.
I would bet the Prestige model is far from "cheap"... and I would not call the Nordy's cheap regardless of model, if they have these installed.
That's cool. How do you get that kind of access?
Also, if you don't mind, what felt cheap about the Talman basses? I mean, they ARE cheap, so it's no huge surprise if they felt that way, but what were the negatives that jumped out at you? Bad fretwork, noodle neck, didn't like the Nordstrands, something else? Did you get a chance to play a 5-string, and how was the B? Thanks in advance for sharing--not everyday we get to talk to someone who supposedly gets first cut at a LOT of new gear!
Those Japanese Prestige basses don't look cheap, though...
I really appreciate Ibanez making quality basses at ALL price points. From the kid picking up their first bass for $150 to the seasoned veteran who can drop $3000 on a bass and everyone in between! 
I bet Ibanez made these after seeing how successful the short scale Squier Jag was at the same price. (approximately $179)
Same pickup configuration too. I think it will prove to be a smart move.
I am an Endorsee of several brands and get to take early cracks at new gear to provide feedback to the manufacturers. Having said that, I should mention that my primary basses are vintage Fenders, Laklands and G&Ls.
I actually think that for "cheaper" priced basses the 100 and 300 series are very good basses for the $. I'm not big on active at all, but quite honestly the tone is pretty decent. I don't play 5's at all either so I can comment on that. I WOULD take the 100 or 600 over any Squier in the same price range.
The bass is surprisingly light and balanced physically which may be on reason it felt "cheap". Feet work was a bit rough and the neck was a bit boxy for my taste.
The 600's are comparable IMO to the Fender Standard line. If you prefer active and aren't a fan of Fenders these are a pretty good option.
I'm sure the prestige is a pretty good instrument.
Yeah, that tight pattern tort just screams 'cheeeeeeeeep' to me. I call it the Cort Tort special. I have it on my Squier Standard Strat. I also got a Jazz bass tort from Guitar Fetish that is exactly the same type of pattern. Just... ugh...
Now the tort on the Japanese Prestige... that on the other hand....

That looks pretty choice... looks a lot like the same stuff much of the Fender Japan basses and guitars had/have...
The 600 isn't part of the Ibanez Talman Prestige line; it's a Standard model. Ibanez Talman Prestige guitars go up to $1300 -- is that "cheap" to you as well?
