New lemmy Sig From Marshall

My first thought as well.

4 El34's doesn't seem like enough.

Maybe if it was 4 6550's, and heavily overbuilt...

Have you ever heard Lemmy play live? He's absolutely deafening....

Many years ago I used a Marshall Superbass 100 with a 2x15 cab in a metal band, competing with 2 guitarists with modded 100W full Marshall stacks (both 2 4x12s each) and a very loud drummer. Never had my amp past 6, and I play lightly.

I count myself very fortunate as having seen Motorhead live in the states in 2005. Motorhead doesn't tour the states very often and this was one of those bands I have always wanted to see. Lemmy used 2 stacks and that was it. Yes Motorhead is LOUD and this was an outdoor concert. I still find the fact that even after 30+ years Motorhead still sounds like Motorhead. I think its long overdue that Lemmy finally got a signature series amp named after him. Its also proof positive that the watt arguement is nothing but hype. Match a tube amp up with the right cab and you are good to go.

there's a guy I know in my neighborhood that has a superbass for sale - going for $1700AUS which is why I can't get it!!! ;-( it's seems to be in good nic- if anyones interested I could look into it 4 U PM me.

re the V4BH Vs the Superbass. I've only played a superbass a cuppla times -IIRC-once thru my NV610 & once thru a Marshall 4x12" 'superbass cab' bass series or summink??
IMHO- the Marshall- using EL34's is a little brighter-but more vintage-sense????? :-( The EQ on the V4BH works a li'l better IIRC-more versatility, but for sheer old school classic rock bass-think Sabbath's Paranoid sorta sound- the Marshall had it in spades.
IMHO EL34's have a transparent sorta quality & the superbass has this & sounds "thunky" as well.........as U can now tell- I'm CR@P at describing sounds!!
Basically If I hadn't bought a V4BH I'd be all over the Superbass at my friend of a friends house!- it's in SUCH good nic. Doesn't look like he's even used it for 15 yrs at least! I think it's a late '70's or early 80's one.

what about 4x12 and 4x15's?

Not got the Lemmy head but i've been using my VBA 400 with the matching 4x12 cab a lot recently and that rig is just awesome !!
As much power as you want with plenty of tonal variation for different rooms.Used mine on a big gig last week and used the D.I through the P.A and our sound guy was very impressed with the post eq feed i gave him.
All in all its the best amp i have owned so far and wont be getting rid of it anytime soon !

hi,i use a mb450 n it,s the dogs danglers.had an issue to start with, pre amp valve was away west so a quick change,2 mins and had to upgrade my speaker cables, running at 2 ohm .it growls like a good un.a good point in it,s favour is the hybryd approach as you only need to change one ecc83 or a 12ax7 instead of full sets of power stage valves and a rebias on a regular basis.havin had a competitor with all valve muscle i would be hard pushed to choose what one to have but i would recommend anyone to at least give one a try.they come in at a nice price as well.

Is that the head that is black with white lettering? A little more "modern" looking than regular Marshall's? If it is then I saw one in a store a couple of weeks ago and they look sharp! They have 410 and 115 cabinets available in the same color scheme.

Yeah thats the MB series. The head is awsome, the cabs, not so much.

and for WATSPAN: I play marshall bass amps.

My MB running at 4 ohms, with volume on about 3 is insane, if you sit down in front of it. It makes your vision blurry:bassist:

I have a friend who plays through a 1973 Super Bass into an old Marshall 4x15 slant (he also has the 4x15 straight cab too) and it is ridiculously loud. 100 watts tube is much louder than you think and Motorhead is always a loud show. One of my very favorite bands. I'd be into checking this out for real.

When I was in High School back in the '70s, I tried to negotiate a deal with my parents to trade straight As for a Marshall Major + a pair of 4x15 cabinets...they wouldn't do it. I did end up buying a used Marshall Major head and used it with my EV SRO loaded 2x15 cabinet.

I have an old Marshall newsletter where it shows a 4x15 stack next to a 4x12 stack and the two 4x15s are as tall as the entire 4x12 stack (head and two cabinets).

Can you get a photo of your friend's amp...I (and I'm sure we) would love to see it! Thanks!

Back to Lemmy's rig...100 watts can be loud if you don't care about a clean tone, don't play a bass with tuning below E and don't scoop the mids as those three attributes require a lot more power.

so does anyone here have one of these?

I read a review of Lemmy's signature series rig in a British magazine a couple of weeks. It's a monstrous set up. 4x12 and a 4x15. I told the wife I was going to order it. She told me to save the box that it came in because that's where i would be living. Judging by the British prices that the article quoted North Americans would be paying around $7000 or $8000 for the entire rig. Just a guess. But man you would be the coolest kid on the block!

ROFLMAO...and (my) SWMBO nodded in agreement when I read your post to her.

She once told me (after I made an 800 mile round trip to Minneapolis to pick up an Acoustic 301 (all in one day mind you)) that if I ever did that again, I'd have to spend the night in the kid's playhouse outside.
