New lemmy Sig From Marshall

The Marshall has lots of sparkle and grind/buzzsaw sound, it realy sings especialey on the upper register notes just jump out. The Ampeg or Hiwatt are used for tightness and headroom. I mike and use a DI. At almost every gig during sound check the sound guy will say um ok that sounds good now lets hear your clean sound, this always get larfs from the band as I reply that is my clean sound. Then I stomp on the big muff ;)

I have been using Marshall Majors since '78 as my main amp, sometimes paired with Ampeg SVTs but usually a Hiwatt DR103

Man that Marshall stack looks savage! I really want to give a Hiwatt or a marshall rig a whirl. :help:

That Major looks like it has been very well taken care of!
I had one around 78, I paid somewhere around $400 for it if I recall- I want another one, but yikes! They go for anywhere between $1500-$2500 USD now days if you can find one- pretty steep for a not-so-popular amp. Mine was loud as heck. I bet it would kill a Traynor YBA-200 or even the Peavey VB200-

Your rig is a thing of beauty- it must sound like God.

Thanks for the comments guys :) The Marshall was recovered when I got it all those years ago, the covering is not quite right one of these days I'll redo correctly. I think I paid 400 beans for it. I'd love to switch to all Hiwatt but they are scary $. I have a Sound City 200 Plus That I got real cheap That serves as back up.

ROFLMAO...and (my) SWMBO nodded in agreement when I read your post to her.

She once told me (after I made an 800 mile round trip to Minneapolis to pick up an Acoustic 301 (all in one day mind you)) that if I ever did that again, I'd have to spend the night in the kid's playhouse outside.

That sounds like a pretty good trade-off for what you're gettin'. One nite ain't too bad.:D

The 100 watt debate is all about the SPL of the drivers.
With the right SPL, 100 watts can sound like 1000.

Little late to the party. I was wondering if anyone else has lost their mind and bought one of these baby's?

Been using SVT's & Trace for years and love them. The bunches of 10's supplied power & punch via SVT. Bi-amping Trace to a set of 410's and a set of 115's gave the best all round sound for me.

I just picked up a Lemmy Marshall. Not a big Motorhead guy, never thought much of Marshall as a bass players first choice. Only 100 watts? 4 15's & 4 12's? On paper it seemed a poor mix. Rig was so outrageous, but I thought Lemmy would set it on fire before putting his name to anything that did not work.

I first tried the head with an 810 cab & got okay results. 4 ohm cab, amp set to 4 ohm, cab started to break up fairly quickly. Finally got some help unboxing & moving the 415 & 412 cabs. Once you hook up the entire rig the results are stunning. I've never been so surprised and impressed by a piece of musical equipment in the couple hundred years I've been dragging a bass around.

The power is the first big surprise. Hard to believe it's only 100 watts. I play in a very loud trio which plays a variety of styles of music. Running the volume between 1 & 2 unleashes a wall of tone and thunder. It's almost too much unless used with care. It easily thumps my SVT and 600 Trace with a classic wall of sound and power. So far, still learning to control her, the SVT and Trace seem to offer a sweeter more polished sound. But then this Marshall is nothing like those two amps. It's like nothing else I've ever played through. I cannot imagine two of these "Lemmy's" used next to each other as it appears Lemmy does. It changes your whole thought process and style with such a dramatic, fierce assault of sound. Not just a volume thing, it just seems to fill and dominate the air. It appears Marshall has put together a magical collection of pieces that that becomes more than what they are apart, much like the advent of the SVT.

I was wondering if anyone else has picked up a Lemmy Marshall, and if so I would be very interested in their thoughts and experience.
