Strange. I have gigged with mine, and I found it pretty darn loud. Certainly as loud as my other basses.
Very strange indeed. Mine is certainly at least as loud as the other passive basses I play with standard (not overwound) passive pickups.Update: my tech took it apart and reports they can't find much amiss. They are going to try swapping out the volume pot... stay tuned...

You say "they can't find much amiss." Is that just a figure of speech, or were there other things they found that they just didn't think were related to the problem you're having?
Your Talman is possibly one of the hottest output basses there currently is. It was easily double the output of my MIM Pbass, Sire, and Yamaha. The Gibson might be fine and it's just that the TMB is SO FREAKING LOUD.
That's a 'feature' you'll find most passive basses have. Some are more obvious than others.How is the "sweep?" I am finding little incremental volume change from settings 1-8, it all comes between settings 9-10.
