New lightweight Darkglass cabs

KingOfTheRoad - can you comment on the build quality; how is it tolex covering; does it seem sturdy (have concerns on the wood used for the outside box - softer than normal cabinet wood).

And I guess if you want a cover you'd have to custom order from a company that does custom work; or does DG have one for this cab?

Jamesblue,

So far I can only comment on appearance. The covering is a medium Grey color with a texture reminding me of diamond pattern on the old Ampegs. Fit and finish is great. The cabinet is very light, noticeably lighter than my GK Neo212. Once I'm healed up and can play again it will get regular use and I can comment on it's ruggedness.

I don't use covers but I'm sure they will become available.

Cheers, Mike

Honestly, they're some of the best looking cabs I've ever seen. Koodos to Doug and the team. I play more slap, clean, and rock styles than anything, but I'm planning to go grab a new 410N next Friday, and I'm super stoked. I'll be driving it with SVT4-Pro and I plan to add some pedals soon, very likely one or two from DG. I know they primarily market towards hard rock/metal styles, but I've played the new DG Neo's and they sound really damn good. It was a toss up for me the past two weeks between the nep cabs made by Ampeg, DG, MarkBass, and GK, but I know I'm going for the DG410N now. 1000W at less than 49 pounds? Yes. Just sold my Mesa PH1000 on Kijiji today, which was my main cab but I started to get really sick of the weight... 140 Lbs or something. Even being in my 20's, I can only handle a cab that heavy for so many years. I'll let you guys know how the DG cab turns out :D

This was their new 2x12. I must have got one of the first from Sweetwater. 6 weeks+ in the cast

Damn dude, that is bad luck. looks like its going to be a while too your arm is all swollen. bad break?

Anyways, just curious... why did you end up going 212 over 410? There is literally zero info out there or comparisons between them. I'm currently trying to decide myself before I pick one up in store this Friday. They costs like 1900 CAD so I want to get it right.

Ah didn't realize older models were silver lol. Well that actually makes me feel pretty good, I would assume the new cabs are a step forward in all aspects, not backwards.

One thing that has been on my mind today is Bergantino NXT 212 cab. Didn't know much about the company so i did some research and they won the 2020 NAM for best cab or something. Kind of throws a doubt in my acquisition of the darkglass cab. I would not mind spending a little more. I just want something amazing that will last a long time. Berg materials seem to be more durable as well.

Also for peeps looking for a good clean sound for slap, check out the 2nd artist in this vid:

I cannot tell if he' using a 410 or 212 though.

It doesn't hurt he's using one of the best basses of all time (kidding sort of - I have a Marcus Miller Jazz and love it - incredible for slap). That tone surprised me for a Darkglass though, it sounds a bit like a pushed tube amp especially when he switches to fingerstyle.

Yep same, got a V10, and I'm hoping to use it with the DG 212 or 410. I'll decide which one when I play them next Friday. Wish I can fast forward 5 days..

I'm in a similar boat. I'm waiting on a Betgantino head and cab and it can't get here soon enough. I'm getting a NXT but the 2x10 cab.

Nice. I'm sure you'll be happy. I was surprised that Berg doesn't make a 410, very strange. I wonder why. But a thought just occurred to me... I want to play metal with DG, but I was also worried about having a decent funk/slap/rock tone. Although DG markets primarily towards metal players, I know that the cabs sound really good clean as well. But, since Berg doesn't make the 410 nxt, I'll get the DG 410, and wait to get a 212 nxt. Use the SVT4 to bi amp and it'll be a nice mix. If I don't like the SVT4 tone with the cabs then i'll sell it and get a forte HP and run it at 2 Ohms. sounds like a good 6-12 month plan lol. 4 grand is a lot for two cabs however! Decisions, decisions. Might have to sell the fender Jazz.

Just got my 212Ne cab. It's friggin awesome. It's so light you don't need to rly worry about banging it up. Fits in the back seat of the car so easily (Mazda 3 gt). Think I'll get myself a second speaker for 2k watts lol, then use the bi amp on my ampeg for 800w each or something. or mono bridge in series... we will see.
