New lightweight Darkglass cabs

Regarding the wood, some people are harsh. Why would Doug build something that sucks?

It's like instead of WooHoos! All the critics just come flocking on new release anything. That's not too cool to always do.
I don't want it to seem that way and honestly regretted posting it. I've used paulownia on projects and expressed my concerns. I am a multiple DG product owner and fan. There are things you can do to harden the surface of wood. It surprised me is all. I hope the cabs work out great for them. Sorry I leaked in the Cheerios.

Being Darkglass branded, I'm sure it will be over priced. Manufacturers seem to think our industry of being a musician is lucrative and price their products like it.

Why do you think they are overpriced?

Let's look at 112 cabs under 30 pounds or so:

GK 112 (34 pounds) = $649
Darkglass 112 = $699
Mesa 112 (32 pounds) = $749
Aguilar 112 = $799
Quilter 112 = $899
Barefaced 112 = $950

I'd say they are priced nicely and will be huge sellers. Yeah you can get a Peavey/Hartke/Rumble for cheaper, but Darkglass is not going after that market.

I'd say you created the list of

"Manufacturers seem to think our industry of being a musician is lucrative and price their products like it."

Darkglass heads are over $1k except for their low powered version, whereas most competitors are under $1k, as another example.

those are kind of pricey units you're listing..... what about the lines for the rest of us? Traynor/yorkville, in canada, GK yep, SWR in the old days, Fender, Ampeg...

Well, nobody is forcing you to buy a $1000 amp. Not sure what your point is?

Competitively priced and I'd expect would sell well.
It's always fascinating when a company carves out a niche within a well-established market.
Darkglass and Dingwall are great to follow.

Where has Bergantino been?
I feel like Darkglass could take over that established market.
Maybe a 610 and a 412 is in their future.

Not sure what you mean by “where have they been”: they put out the mostly widely well reviewed new amp of anyone last year, and a bunch of new cabs.

Dingwall and Darkglass are both definitely great examples of a brand reacting to market demands though: they’ve both grown exponentially in just the last five years alone.

No idea what you’re talking about: GK, Mesa and Aguilar are huge brands that all sell at volume.

That means by definition that there is sizable market for what they’re selling.

“Working musician” is a tiny percentage of the music retail market: most musicians are hobbyists.

The same applies to almost every market.

You don’t think everyone that owns a Porsche is a professional race car driver do you? ;)

The new line up is looking good. Loved my DG210 but eventually part it away this week as it was just too heavy.

I hope the new 210 retains the awesome tone, the look is my favorite of all.

You didn't come off as negative or as a buzzkill imo. I'm glad you addressed the same concerns I have since Lightweight cabs are hit or miss. Sometimes the implementation of certain materials work better with well designed products. Therefore, instead of being skeptical, Doug's clarification got me interested

OMG, people pay that for one 12" speaker? :rollno:

The price point of these cabs is firmly in the middle of competitive products.

Aguilar 112 $799
GK 112 $649
Orange $529 but not a neo cab
Mesa SW 112 $749

Some people like the portability of single speaker cabs. The DG cabs seem light enough that you could get a 212 and it is lighter than the Ampeg 112. (not a neo cab)

Well they're definitely gorgeous.. If I hadn't recently bought a Barefaced Big Twin II, I'd be interested in that 212.

Kinda the same, depending on the cost of the speakers in the UK. I do love my ST tho!

That may be the case, but those cheaper heads don't include 3-400 bucks worth of the best dirt engines available.

That's clearly my ignorance. I somehow missed everything Jim did this year lol.
How? I have no idea.
I freshened up on it last night.
However, aside from the bass playing from Imagine Dragons using a NV610 and 412 live, I don't know many using Berg rigs.
The shows I attended and played this year, Fender Bassman and Rumble undoubtedly ruled the roost.
The occasional SVT/Ampeg rig, Aguilar, Markbass rig snuck in there.
