It'll do great with it...no problems here but I only go to low B. The G30 will handle down to 10Hz (Low B is 31Hz and the A you're tuning to should be 27.5Hz).

The G50 will have better range, than the G30. So if you want more range (relative to the G30), get the G50. But I'm sure the G30 will be enough range for just about every weekend warrior. (Extra range is the reason I got the G50, the piece of mind was worth the $100 to me).

The G30 is miles better than any $850 overpriced analog unit and the G50 isn't any better than the G30 in terms of audio quality.

The G50 has the LCD screen that shows a rough time estimate left on the batteries, but you still have a relative battery meter on the receiver of the G30. So I don't see that LCD as a huge plus.

The G50 has more options for 'cable tone', but I'm completely happy without that 'feature'. Same with channels, the G50 has 12 to G30's 6, but unless you have multiple people using them at once, 1 is all you need.

G50 has a seperate tuner out, but thats not really a big deal.

The G30 transmitter has the 1/4" input, where the G50 has a mini-xlr (TA4) on the transmitter.

If one of those differences is worth $100 to you, then the G50 is your choice. If I missed anything, someone will undoubtedly chime in.

This is probably one of the reasons why I might get the G50. I feel if I have the plastic model, it can break or crack easily.

I just picked up a G30, and will put it through it's paces at a gig next weekend. Initial tests sound great, and I'm looking forward to using this. As mentioned, the battery cover is plastic, and I had a bit of a hard time getting to latch securely. It eventually did, but I'm expecting at some point to need to secure it with a small piece of gaffer's tape.

Just for the curious like me, here is the G50's internals: (four T6 screws, no crappy plastic clips or anything)

I was originally looking to see if a 1/4" could be retrofit, but there is not enough room to do that.

The Invalid Link Removed is the A/D and is the same chip that the X2 uses. The Invalid Link Removed is obviously the RF section (I was expecting something a bit more than a 'paper clip' antenna inside that large plastic housing), the X2 used a CC1150. As for brains, the X2 I opened used the Invalid Link Removed while the G50 uses Invalid Link Removed

The G50 transmitter (TBP12) is 2-3/4 inches wide, and 3-1/4 inches tall, and just under 3/4 inches thick, with a stubby antenna and inch tall in one corner. It is metal bodied, and reassuringly weighty. The X2 transmitter was a nightmare because of the clip, I ended up putting it in my pocket most of the time, but this one is perfect - tight clip stays in one place on your strap for the whole gig.

My G30 lives in my pedalboard, so for travelling etc it's well protected.
Live... I guess something could fall onto it... like an overenthusiastic singer dancing like a madman... but I'm not terribly worried, and it's placed next to the powersupply away from footswitches etc. If it worried me it would be relatively simple to mount a couple of metal brackets over it that would cost me pennies in a hardware store.

The transmitter's clip is the one thing I'm not very comfortable about. A metal clip held on by a small plastic bit that I see breaking easily if you pull too much. In fact, my guitarist's snapped that way. What I did was find a small pouch for an mp3 player that fitted the transmitter, and attach that to my strap. Then the transmitter is safe inside. My guitarist made a leather puch for it just because he's cooler than me ;-)
