I dig the G30. I got it from my wife for Father's Day. And best of all, she created an account here at TB to get help picking it out, all without my knowledge.

Sorry for the necro, but I figure it would be better to just bump this than rather create another thread for my question.
I've been wanting to add a quality wireless for a while. Both the G50 and G90 pique my interest. The problem, however, is I have no visual-spatial intelligence, so I'm trying to visualize 200 and 300 feet, respectively. While I usually use a rackmount head, I sometimes use a non-rackmount head or combo, which would give the G50 a leg up (plus, it's not quite as expensive).
Could anyone give me any examples of what type of room or area would typically be 200 feet versus what type of room or area would typically be 300 feet? Thanks!

200-300 feet is a long way. Anything farther than 100 feet and you will experience some major sound delay. I have wireless IEM and that helps, but even still things get strange.

The G30 is a great unit.....I have one and use it every show. My major complaints are the battery door, and shotty clip. I have to tape the battery door shut (it has come open several times without it while playing annd that's no good) also the clip doesn't stay on the strap for anything so I tape it on only because I move a ton on stage, if your a stationary player this unit will give you no problems in either respect. other than that I love my relay.

Ahh phasing...the bane of going wireless whilst going in front of the FOH.
I've had my G30 wireless now for 6 four set gigs. I've only used two sets of Alkaline batteries though they would have probably lasted one more gig each. I've gotten lots of compliments on the big deep rich sound and I'm pleased also. I've had Shure and AKG wireless before but they were way weak on the low frequencies, so much so that they were pretty much unusable. My 20' cords wouldn't reach from my amp to the mic stand so I made a 30' cord. Killed my tone. So I read the Line 6 reviews that said the G30 sounded "just like a wire". It doesn't, I can hear just a little more timber with a cord, BUT. It is very little difference. I wouldn't record with it but in a live gig, I can't hear the difference. I have great equipment - '83 NT NJ BC Rich Eagle, SansAmp BassDriver DI, Hartke 3500 (modified tube), SVT610HLF - and it makes great tone, so I can definately hear everything clearly. I switch between cable tone selections at times and that is a welcome feature. I think the only thing I would change is having the rack mount G90. That just wasn't in the budget, and I made a good choice. I don't have any problems with the battery door because I make sure the slide release is fully closed. I'm very happy with the Line 6 G30. I recommend it.
And that's the thing: if you make sure the slide latch is fully closed, it will most definitely not open by itself.
But it is hard, you have to push, and I guess some people just don't pay enough attention, they think it's fully closed when it isn't, and then they complain ;-)

Lost my cables the other day after a gig so thought I would get the G30; really dig it. I jump around in a 90s cover band and can't wait to try it with them. Freedom to move without having to kick my cable out of the way all the time. More importantly my tone hasn't changed in anyway I can notice.
Hello, I am interested in a G30 or G50. I have a couple of questions:
The G30 is quarter inch to quarter inch while the G50 is not. The fact that the G50 has a different wire is an issue because in case that wire fails, it is hard to get a replacement while the quarter inch to quarter inch is easy to replace? Is this it? Have people noticed that the wire has broken?
Also, this thread is a few years old. I would be interested in hearing from people who have owned one of these units for several years. Have they held up?

Well, the special cable is an issue. On the G50-G90 they are like mini XLR connections with 4 pins. And Friday night my body pack came off my strap, swung down then came disconnected from my bass and fell about another 3-4' to the dance floor and the stress on the cable damaged the connections inside. I had to switch to a wire for the rest of the night. I easily fixed it the next day with a little soldering, and I went ahead and replaced the wire with a heavier gauge and about 6" longer. I had already planned on getting a backup wire and will have one buy the next gig. Another buddie of mine had the same problem a couple weeks before.
Part of the problem was poor build quality in the soldier connectons on both ends of the stock cable. Earlier that week at band practice is was cutting out on the guitar connector end and I opened it up to find a could od wire strands from the sleeve connection coming down the center and touching on the center of the tip connection. So right then I should have re-done all the connections, then they would have been stronger and better insulated with heat shrink like you'd expect on a professionally built gizmo.
But, even with these issuse, I still am happy with the G50. It has a tuner/mute on the body pack and has been a solid transmitting unit with no interference yet. Plus the mini XLR connector has a push button lock holding it in, I think I would have pulled the 1/4" on G30 out more than once during stage crazyness. A guy at GC was talking down about these units because they use the 2.4ghz band and can have problems with wifi systems, esp in churches?

I have an X2 that always sounded decent, but I always noticed significant sound delays, even when not far off stage. Is that just nature of wireless and bass frequencies, or will the G30/G50 be any better? I can't imagine really going beyond 100 ft ...ever. Most likely is maybe 30 feet off stage on occassion.

No, I'm not sure its not just the nature of sound wave travel and natural time delay. That's why I was asking. Otherwise, My X2 Digital still works just fine. Wondering if the Line6 G30/G50 sounds any better or if that money spent would be a wasted upgrade?

It is. Sound travels 100 meters in about .3 seconds, which is clearly noticeable. The wireless signal takes about 0.0000003 seconds to travel that distance.
