Control cavity and cover area is routed out, and an aluminum plate has been epoxied to the inside of the cavity floor to support the underlying burl with plenty of rigidity and strength. The holes for electronics have also been drilled out.
Here I've applied a little bit of red filtering with the photo editor to see the grain a bit better and get an idea what it will look like once I've done work with the dyes.
I typically don't like maple fingerboards (for a variety of reasons), and visual contrast is one of them, but the tonal balance you have here is quite nice.
