I believe that DMV requires a 5er too. Grab an Essex bass or a Brice and then you'd be set and could play those + Shake Hands With Beef...the proper way :p ~ Ty

hehe yeah, wich made it a kind of a pain to learn at 1st. ;x

essex? brice? never heard of them. but atm I am looking into a new bass. dunno if I will go with a 5 string do to the fact most 5strings I have played have the strings WAY to close to each other for my liking. :/

Geez I've been here a year now and never saw this thread. Where do I go for a name tag? Are there drink coupons? Food?

Anyhow, I've been playing bass in a working band for just about 1.5 years. I've been a musician for about 20 years now though. 1st (10yrs) on drums, then guitar. Bass is definately an accquired skill.

I am glad I have things to learn.

I just wanted to say hello to everyone! I'm semi-new to Bass(played guitar for years, but have been bitten by the 4 string!). This looks like a really great community to be a part of. :)

I will be surfing the forums as there seems to be alot of info that will take years to comb through!

Later people!

Ben

Howdy, my name is Brent.
I play bass guitar, double bass and pretty much anything else I can get my fingers on. (guitar, pedal steel, fiddle, piano, drums.....)

I'm 34 and I've been playing bass for about 22 years. I have been a part of several really good band (and some not so good!)
I joined this wonderful forum while doing research for a new amplifier. (A smart shopper is an informed shopper) And I am totally hooked!
And now I'm headed over to the "Ask Mike Watt" thread.

Check out http://www.mulehead.net for more on what I'm doing.

Peace & Low end

Rev.

kool, if my next bass isn't a 5/6 strings I will def pic up one of those HXB(?) 6'ers. for that price I dont really have much to worry about.

just read threw some of that and found out HXB's are built from the same factory/machine/designe as one of rogue's basses and even though I am new even I have noticed nearly everyone here hate's rogue, yet loves essex/brice.

Hi, I'm new too.

My name's Mike and I'm a 20 year old university student in sackville, new brunswick (living around ottawa when not at school). I have a strunal upright and I'm currently combing ebay for a decent electric (lots of musicmasters there at the moment... maybe one of those).

I played electric for most of high school until my bass got stolen. I got an upright instead of replacing the EB. I'm now starting the process of relearning the instrument pretty much from scratch because my playing is terrible and full of bad habits from lazy practicing (or lack thereof) right now. Weak fingers, bad time, you name it. And my arco tone. Eugh.

'Bass music' I'm listening to these days: Mingus, some stuff w/ Paul Chambers on it, the new Blur album (the basslines are great!), Curtis Mayfield, Marvin Gaye. Other favs at the moment are Bonnie Prince Billy, Postal Service, Sloan, The Roots and Grandaddy.
