Hi, I'm Lisa, and I haven't been playing bass that long. I've been playing electric violin forever so I suppose if anyone wants advice on that...somehow I doubt it. I've played in bands in Seattle and Chicago, ranging from a nu-metal power trio to gospel. This looks like an excellent place; I'm happy to have found it!

Wow...how did I not see this thread when I first joined?!?! Well anyways, hello everyone, my name is Tyler. I used to be known here as NewBassPlayer66 but I'm done with that "new" stage 
. I've been playing bass for a year in December of this year (2003). I am in a band with some friends (2 guitarists and a drummer) and I play an Essex BG205 and an Ibanez GSR200 (Fretless) through an SWR LA15.
I try to offer as much advice on life and basses as I can to those who post here. I guess I'll see you all around... ~ Tyler

Well, I've been posting here for about 6 months but never really introduced myself. I've been playing bass for almost 30 years. Self taught, and almost all my playing experience has been in churches. I also play acoustic and electric guitar, guitar synth, mandolin (badly), low Irish whistle and hand drums. I build my own basses; here's a pic of me playing the latest one, the "Scrap Wood Bass". TalkBass is a great place, and I've learned a whole lot here.

Thanks for the compliments I pretty much have learned by trial and plenty of error over the years, and I still have a lot to learn. I started by buying cheap basses, tearing them apart, making new bodies etc. I took drafting classes, which helps a lot in designing. Also I went to college to learn violin repair, and was the head repairman at a violin shop for 7 years. That taught me a lot about using tools, etc. Recently Darrin Huff has been helping me out with pointers on how to do bass-building stuff.
There are also many "in progress" threads here at TB that can teach you quite a bit from studying the construction pics. You can also check the MIMF. Have fun!

I have just laid a new wooden floor at home and have a few off-cuts. Reckon you could make me a new bass from these?
As much work as putting in hardwood floors myself was - I don't know if I'd waste them on anything as ordinary as a bass. Not exactly finesse, but dang that was hard work.

Well, I dunno... how about some nice premium vinyl tile instead? Makes it easier to clean all those black heel marks off your bass from stomping on it...

As you have probly guessed I am a Primus fanboy.
I have been playing guitar for 3~ years. about 6 or so months ago my uncle turned me on to Primus. Listening to those bass lines got me til I finaly went down to GuitarCenter and got me the cheapest Ibanez bass I could afford and have been happily slap'n ever since.
