People don't usually strum basses. The most common techniques play one string at a time through finger plucking (also calles pizzicato) or playing with a pick.

hi all, i am mike, and this is my second post. i have been playing for almost 3 years, self taught, and just have fun with it. i am currently playing an ibanez soundgear 405, but have owned an eda900 (wasn't a huge fan of the piezo pickups after a while... it was more of an impulse buy than anything else) and i am EXTREMELY pleased to say that i am getting a peavey cirrus 5 string ( it was used at my local music store, and i got it for a little under a grand. i was looking for a 4 string, but fell in love with this one. i will post pics when i get it. nice to meet you all, and i enjoy reading your posts.

my name is ben. i been playing for about 8 years now, started with guitar about 10 years ago but thankfully i saw the light. i have 5 basses, 4 ibanez and a musicman, i love them all in their own special way. not playing out too much now so trying to keep in shape with the basics and some bach. looking forward to learning from everyone here.

I've been here since April, seems like I'm still new. My name is Phil (just added to my sig) and I've been playing since HS, but really getting into it the last 14 or 15 years, so quite a while. I wish I could say that i'm really good now after all this time, but I can't. Still trying though, and getting good info and having fun at TB.

:) hey everyone... I lurked for about 3 years and just started posting pretty recently. I'm 22, I started playing 3 years ago during my sophomore year of college. I've got 3 basses, but the 2 I actually play are my two 5s, a DeArmond Pilot Deluxe 5 and the awesome MTD Kingston 5, lol. Glad to be here.

Greets!

I registered just a little over a year ago, but just recently started actually interacting with the site! Montana's fairly large and we tend to get disconnected from the rest of the world pretty easily here, but I was even greeted by a fellow TB'er at one of my gig's last year. So that was cool. Great site, full of more knowledge than I can even begin to absorb completely. I've been playing for some time now.... I learned on DB and played that for 6 years through school, but once I graduated from High School, access to a DB was limited so I found myself exclusive playing my rig I bought my 1st year in high-school. It was a Carvin studio bass and a Fender Bassman 20, used for $400.00.... That was back in '88. I've been playing BG ever since. Currently I play in a 3-piece blues trio, mostly playing local gigs, with the occasional festival out of state. We play a variety of covers as well as originals. Music for me is good medicine, and when we're not gigging, I tend to get a little grumpy (or so my wife says.....). I wish playing bass was my full-time job, but unfortunately, I also have a 8-5, M-F job during the day as well. I've built a small ProTools studio in my basement so I can track our band, as well as making an extra buck here and there to help feed my addition of musical/studio gear.

Well that's about it, great site, and hope to see you all around.....and thanks for all the help in the past from those of you that have responded to my various questions from time to time.
