Hello TBers,
I've only posted a couple of time but i've been lurking for a while, I've really enjoyed reading your stuff.
I play upright bass in a dixieland jazz band, and have a second hand Fender Jazz, and an old short scale (looks a bit like a strat) that i can't identify, along with the oldest bass amp in the known world. I sing in a Blues Brothers cover band too. Love it.
Anyway, that's me.

Well hello, I've been a lurker and a very recent poster but somehow never noticed this thread for intros-Great idea!
I've always been a bass player. My big sister played her Beatle records all day long and all I could hear through the wall was Paul McCartney bass lines. I assumed they were the main part of the song and now I know I was right! I am a self taught-by ear pro player of 30 years or so and am enjoying it more than ever. Recently took the leap to an EUB. Currently playing with a regional pop outfit-take a look at Link Removed. I look forward to meeting you all one by one. Tom Broeske

I'm in my senior year of high school and live just outside Seattle. I've been playing for almost 3 and a half years.
My cheif influences are Steve Harris, Steve Digiorgio, Jaco, Ron Royce (Broder), Charles Mingus, Roger Patterson, Martin Mendez, and Brian Ritchie. I also enjoy the compositional and melodic styles of guitarists like Mikael Akerfeldt, Tom Warrior and Chuck Schuldiner, as well as oudist Hamza El Din and Anoushka Shankar.
I jam when I can with buddies, but really hope to be in an experimental metal band one day- Celtic Frost/Maiden/Opeth/Coroner influences with plenty of room to branch out and write things with a compositional approach.

i'm new.
i've been playing bass and guitar for sometime, and i feel like i'm a good player, but want to be a lot better.
i'm trying to learn more into theory and song structure as to change my playing style. i feel like when i jam, i'll often fall back on the sureties because i don't know where else to go (usually the ol' I IV V).
i just found this board tonight and i already feel like this is going to be such a huge help. thanks to all who help to teach on here.

Hello there, my name is Paul. I've been playing bass since '98 but made it my main instrument a couple years ago. Only just recently started getting G.A.S. for bass stuff after 5 years just owning the 1 bass (MIM Fender P) and a bunch of guitar gear. (owned the typical Gibson and Marshall axe/amp combo at one point) Now I'm selling most of my guitar stuff, and focusing on the bassy goodness.

My name is Vladimir, but most of the people call me Vlado. I play bass for more then 15 years now and for the past four years I´ve been doing it professionaly. As I can see for many people here, neither for me it wasn´t a first choice instrument, though I´m very satisfayed with my choice now. Other than bass I play some guitar, but I don´t play too good. It´s helpfull, though, for composing. In turning to bass the most important influence for me was Michael Manring´s playing on first Michael Hedges album Breakfast in the field and from there comes also my love for the fretless bass. From the moment I decided to play bass I also knew that it is going to be a fretless.

Just recently got a 5-string and a hankering to play in a band again. Hopefully I'll be able to find the time (I work much more than 40 hours a week).

ahhh iv been playing bass for anywere between 0-16 years idono i got a fender jazz i play church and youth every week being the only bass player in my church... and i play in a garage band named trouser seat. i dono if i have much to offer seeing as iv never had a lesson but iv got some cool things up my sleves

Hi I have been playing bass for , uh 25 years now? ouch. I own a 5 string Tobias something and a very old Ovation Magnum solid body. I play thru a large variety of effects but always a little distortion and probably an envelope follower. I play mostly punk and metal, but have been known to get very weird. For a while I was known as the mad bass player of E street. I have played bass in a number of punk and experimental/noise bands. Answering Machine is my current project. Previously I have been in Incestor, Sucker MCs, Away Team, Stump Babies, Noncompliance, Apoxia, Zero Hour, Lung Butter(the original one), Smog (the Oakland HC band not the SF indie band, should've TM-ed that name!)Trap-a- Poodle, Crypt of Pigs, Bonk, Spank Magik and more.
I have been asked to teach bass by a few folks but refuse on the grounds that; I don't agree with most of music theory whatever I teach you will not be aplicable in other bands, being a musician is not the glamourous life most folks think it is, it is a selfless, masochistic decent into madness, Time spent teaching you is better spent surfing online reading newsgroups and forums, I am not as good as you think I am.
I play mostly Boogie gear, but lately have been getting into a more hi fi sound, so may be picking up an Ashdown or whatever is the good one of these days. I have recorded and done sound for some lousy famous bands and some brilliant bands that went nowhere. You can blame me for Rancid existing.
