hey, i'm leaping badger, i started playing bass about 6 months ago after my bands bassist quit (before the band had even really started), thinking it would be good fun and different to guitar, and i wasn't wrong and i love it. I play a yamaha rbx170, ok so it's not very good, but i get by, and i use a roland bass cube 30 amp. This looks like a nice place. Hope i can learn a lot from you guys.

I've been playing electric bass since 6th May 1989 .....
I play 2 Barnes basses (italian homemade), 5 stringers. I use an old black modified Demeter rack preamp, a QSC PLX 1602 power amp, an Acme LowB2 cab and sometimes a custom 4x10 cab, an Art Levelar compressor.
Most times i play through a pair of AKG K141M earphones ...
I don't play out much, these days. I play strictly as a hobby.....
I have an interest in the most various music, especially in the acoustic-oriented type of sound/arrangement.
It's a pleasure to be a Talkbass's subscriber........
I noticed one thing: there's an infinite flush of posts, here in Talkbass....... ! It's almost impossible to read a significant number of daily posts !!!

Matt from Maine. SEK is a nickname given to me back in high school. Anyway, glad to finally be an official member - been lurking for quite a few months.
My one regret in life was quitting the bass guitar...in 4th f#$%ing grade! I'm 31 now, and if only I kept playing all this time!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHH
Ok, I'm over it.
In the Spring of 2001 I got back into playing bass with a modest but sufficient SGR200 and a little Peavey practice amp. What a friggin' BLAST I had that summer!
Long story short, I love playing rock/blues/folk with any 4-string Explorer style bass. 5-strings don't appeal to me yet - maybe some day. Lately I've been playing a lot of stuff from the Brian Jonestown Massacre - straightforward kick-a$$ sounding bass! ZZ Top is another favorite of mine, and countless others.
My goal is to some day be a bass player in a local band doing local gigs in some sh$%house, dark, smoky bar. That's all. Whatever the outcome, it will be fun trying to get there.

I've been playing bass for about 4 years. I started on guitar, but once I switched to the bass, I never looked back. Currently I play a Rogue 5-string, but I am awaiting a nice big tax return so I can buy something more substantial. I play in a group called the Jazz Disciples, which plays church hymns in a 40's-big-band style. I also play bass at my church every other week.
Aside from the bass, I enjoy politics (hence, the GOP part of my name), Christian theology, football, and history.

Been lurking for a while. When I took my kid to a music store to get him a violin, I asked to handle a few basses and fell in love. Basses do not sound like dying animals, nor do they feel flimsy, like violins. I got one from a friend (esp b50) and I've been practicing a few hours a day. I love it. Almost as good as sex

My pre-teen daughter says that when she starts her own band she'll have me play bass while in a cardboard box so the band doesn't have to deal with the SHAME of having a mommy bassist

Hello everyone. I used to post at Bassdogs as SteveJazz. Long-time player, currently with Phil Brown & Apaches From Paris. (http://www.philbrownguitar.com/). Phil has a new release (hopefully) scheduled for March 23rd, keep your fingers crossed. He is sounding great and a real challenge to keep up with. Name is Marshall. Live an hour south of Philly, PA. Been playing off and on since '83 or so, as a 13 year old. Six months of lessons and then anything I could cop from anyone that would hold still long enough to let me see what they were doing.
Current main squeezes are a 25 year old Rick and a 15 year old fretless Jazz. Main gig amp is a Marshall 3540 (2x200 watt bi-amp rig) through a PV 1820 cab. Also have a magnificent late 70s' Univox bass tube head that is phenominla sounding...when it works. If the Tubes are aglow, it's straight in the front. If I'm using the SS, I will wireless for gigs. Also have a rackmount EQ for those really annoying rooms.
Hoping to clone the bass head with modern (read:r-e-l-i-a-b-l-e) parts so that I can gig it, as it is the finest sounding amp I've ever heard. Other than that I'm gassing a Geddy or similar fretted Jazz. Maybe Olympic white to contrast the Black fretless.

I've been playing since '77 and have gone through a few basses over the years: Beatle Bass copy, Jazz copy, Rickenbaker 4001, '78 MusicMan Stingray (recently sold), Kramer Steinberger copy, Kawai F2B and MIJ Jazz. I'm now looking for a replacement for the Stingray and prefer something with a thinner neck.
I'm currently using an Ibanez SW100 amp; I know that it'll be time to replace it soon.
Not currently playing with a group, but after I woodshed a bit (out of practice), I'm gonna start looking.

Kevan here, from the Pacific Northwest, where rain was and is and is to come, and daily produces the sound like that of 1000 metronomes, all tocking away at different tempos, all at once. People go insane here because of the weather.
I've played bass for six years, mainly in church or with friends, nothing too serious, yet. I've taken lessons since last year. My setup is a Bongo 5 HHP and a GK MB150E.
I've lurked for a long time, but this is my first real post. Tis a pleasure to hang out with you all on TB.

I've been a supporting member for almost a year, lurked for awhile before that. I thought I'd put my "intro" here way back when.
I'm Joe Robinson from Keizer, Oregon, have played on and off for close to 30 years, got back onboard after divorcing a few years back. I'd classify myself as your travelling rock-n-roll bass guitarist, but I love blues, fusion (especially older stuff like Return to Forever, Al Dimeola, etc.) and too many other things - I think opera would be the only music I don't enjoy. I play a Ken Smith Design 5-string (import) since I didn't want to fork out MEGA cash on my 1st axe, but I'm in love with the way it plays and sounds, which is good enough for me. I will say for you Jazz Bass players that this axe speaks volumes (got a problem w/ imports? Check these out!).
I've been gigging pretty much the last year, having a great time and enjoying the people I've met/played with/played for. I'm not getting rich, but I've paid for all my equipment with gig money, so that's a good thing...
Thanks to all of you TB'ers for your input, seasoned pros and noobies alike. I'm learned more about my craft in the last 2 years than I knew in the last 28!
