new mesa all tube amp ?????

well that is awesome i cant wait too hear the offspring of the mesa 400+, and m9 :D. all i need to do is raise the funds now !!!!

Looking at the prices on that link-$2299.00 is for the Bass Strategy. The smaller on is priced at $1499.00 which was what I paid for my 400+ brand new back in 2004 or 2005.

I'm just a bedroom player now, so I can't justify paying that much money for those heads and I still have my 400+. Which I want to be buried with. But it's exciting to hear about these amps!! I want to see pics!

I spoke to Doug West about these, and he confirms that the Strategy will have the M9 front end, and the Prodigy is a "little brother" version of the Strategy, so it will have an M9 front end (or something close to it).

At the 2011 Winter NAMM, Dan told me that they'd have one lower-powered head with 6L6's, and one higher-powered head with KT88's, but I guess they want to stick with the 6L6's.

Hmm, I happen to play an Ampeg V4BH, it is not loud enough for me. I was looking for another head. First a Weber Mywatt 200 (Hiwatt clone) came to my mind, then I saw the announcement of Fender's new Bassman amps, then I see some old Trace Elliot V6 on ebay. The Mesa 400+ always had my interest. Then I asked myself if I really wanted a tube amp at all. Then I got interested in Mesa's Carbine series, and now I see this announcement???? It is not fair... decisions, decisions...

We're now a year past Winter NAMM 2011, when this amp first leaked, and no release? Fender has announced their Super Bassman 300 and Bassman 100T, Eden is well into it's second generation 300, Traynor has a nice 300, Peavey has a couple of good tube amps, Reeves is up to 400 watts from 200, the list goes on & on......... not a loser in the mix!

Mesa, much like Ferrari, Lambo, Aston, etc..... have never built amps for the "masses", it's a high-end brand, of which I've only owned one used 400+. I'm sure it's pricing this time will reflect that. As an "ol geezer player", who's been around longer than Randell Smith's shed....... Mesa has always lead, but never followed. They built on great concepts before them and made them better, hopefully this will too!

I'm just concerned that with the likes of Fender "trail-blazing" before them and setting market values, let's not forget that Ampeg is still in the mix(!), I hope they haven't spent "too much time in development". Just my thoughts, Ken

Good stuff. I'm interested in the 120w version... especially if the "sounds like 300" is true. 100 watts is kind of a sweet spot, but it tough cuz you don't have much headroom.

I'm not a fan of the built in distortion channels on some of the tube amps that are coming out (peavey and fender :ninja:). I like the idea of getting my distortion by kicking it down to 60watts and turn it up to 10:eek:

this is very interesting and exciting news. But for me, some of the the news is somewhat disappointing. The fact that these amps will apparently use the Carbine pre section is a turn off. I am a dedicated Walkabout user and just love the WA pre section. The Carbine amps are great but the pre section, and the way it is coupled to the power section is just too "modern" of a voice for my tastes. I will just have to see what the tone/feel impact is of this decision.

I looked at the features listed for both of these amps and was happy to see the Solo channel feature (like the MPulse600). IMO/IME, this was one of the coolest features of the MP600 amps, almost like having a second channel, or like a built in footswitchable Vol/boost pedal for when you wanted to stand out in a mix - like a solo (yay, bass solos !)

I will eagerly look to try one or both of these out as I am a very happy Mesa user, but the Carbine front end on these amps may make the new Fender Bassman offerings more attractive.

Yea, I figured that was the case, given his unusual silence of late (and the proliferation of his signature avatar).

With respect to Mesa's upcoming all-tube offerings, I'll have to hold off for awhile: I've just picked up a used Walkabout Scout 12 combo. Got it for a steal (with a 3-month warranty, no less), and it cleaned up really well. Gigging it tonight!

That being said, if the new 120W head is what I'm hoping it'll be, the Buster might have to go... Although I'm living in Canada now, I'm a Petaluma native -- and pretty fond of the "home team".

my objection to the M9 preamp section is in comparison to the Walkabout pre (and it's very nicely engineered link between the 12AX7 preamp section and the mosfet/power section). As is well known, the WA delivers a very tubey experience, whereas the Carbine series (M3,6 and 9), while they certainly have tube influence, delivers nowhere near the tube feel of the WA (IMO/IME).

Not saying anything against the Carbine, just not my cup 'o tube goodness. But, its possible the M series preamp will perform a bit differently when linked to an all tube power section. We'll just have to wait and see/hear it for ourselves.

And don't forget these new heads are supposed to have three 12AX7
which is not the case with the current Carbine preamp.
So, I guess it's possible the preamp will be more tubey than
the Carbine preamp section.

For myself I have no interest apart from curiosity. Switching out output tubes is problematic unless extra taps are built into the OPT secondary to accommodate the impedance changes the switch out causes. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I agree with JGR's, and others, disappointment with the 12 6L6GCs. That's a lot of tubes to go wrong and a huge amount of heat to dissipate just to keep the amp cool.

Me too.

I emailed Cascio about the cabs with regards to weight and when they may be available...they, in turn, emailed Mesa who told them they were still "tweaking" the new cabs and didn't have an estimated date for release, or weight specs. Still, I'll be interested in checking them out once they arrive.
