New mesa subway amps and cabs!

The bright switch is part of the Carbine vibe, that's the biggest thing that the D-800 is missing compared with the plus. The WD-800 just has a different texture, you can get into the Carbine territory, and you can get tones that are quite different too, even some tones from the Big Block. I do suggest that you try both first, as your tastes may prefer one over the other for different reasons than mine.

Thank you Agedhorse I was hoping you’d chime in! Your right of course, go try them! I’ve bought almost all of my Mesa stuff at the Hollywood store being that I live in Los Angeles. Those guys are the coolest, most helpful gentlemen. I just happened to check the Mesa site today and became OBSESSED plus I really like the empirical experience of the TBers, it’s been really helpful and fun. Good to know about the brite switch I’ll try it as soon as I can delegate the time to do it right. Manny

I might try a single1x15 Subway and see if that will suffice for some of my low to medium volume band gigs. I am going to try and demo a WD800 Wednesday night if possible.

I have a pair of SW115s, but tend to gig just one of them more often than not - a single SW115 will put out a surprising amound of volume and low end, yet retain clarity and punch...

Going to try a WD800 this weekend. After all this time with Ampeg, I’m curious about something else. And there is quite the buzz on this amp.

Not sure what cab config to consider and I’ll have to try it with either the Ampeg 610hlf or an EBS Neoline 410. I cant afford the Mesa cabs anyway at the moment.

I’m excited to hear the Mesa kickin’ it with the 14-piece horn band this weekend.

Will the 800+ accept rack ears? Ive never had a problem useing the included gig bag for my D800 but I’m thinking one of those molded cases with latches would be cool. I did search this (somewhat) and most folks are talking about a case just for transit, no one the amp would live in.

Yes indeed Agedhorse and sorry to revive that grumpy thread but hey there is a cool Utube video (do yourself a favor and just go to page 2!) on there that provides an excellent solution. No drilling, no mods, no removing the feet just a $31 dollar shelf and Velcro. Get a 3 rack space and your cords etc. can go right on top. Sweet! The video is by “Jangomike” a Mesa artist

Yeah, I'm running the WD-800 and two of the 2x12's. I've played a number of shows with them and they definitely deliver the tone. I've used the 1x15, 1x12, and 2x10 Subway cabs, and these 2x12's are my favorite. In my opinion, they're the middle ground of what all the other cabs have to offer. I haven't directly A/B'd them with other cabinets, all I know is they handle what I'm sending. I play loud, hard over driven bass with a lot of effects, and they take it all, no problem. Also, two of them stacked on top of each other looks really tough too!

Keto, Are you saying the WD800 works well with the Subway 1x15 at low volumes too? When you said you put it back up top, does that mean you only used the 1x15 subway but it was elevated sitting atop the 2x10?

I use the 115 as a stand-alone often, EVEN without FOH support. First with the D-800 (for 3 years) and now the WD.
I love the 112/115 stack but it's often (surprised i'm saying this ) overkill.

Thx Giant! “loud, hard over driven bass” a man after my own heart! (I’ve gotten some bewildered looks from bandleaders at times tho!) Good to know that the 212 is delivering in that context.
I’d really took to 12s after getting the PH412 and I’ve tried numerous other makers before the Subway line came out trying to get that vibe in a lighter package. I’m not going to list them all because it’s irrelevant and my D800/115/112 sounds awesome cranked up/deep switch is your friend at lower volumes. People would do well to realize the liberation in seeing so much in life is subjective.
I think the 800+ is going to be perfect for me but like Da Horse said “go try them”. Luckily I can.
And I’m probably keeping my current rig because this Tribute Band stuff can’t last forever (it’s gone all in-ears anyway Grrrr!) and I’d like to get back into R&B and Jazz: R&B-D800/115, fretless bass Jazz-D800/112. The modularity is super cool.

Oh and ^^3phist0 yeah I’ll use the 112 or 115 separately depending on the gig/venue for sure. I did push it a bit one night with the 115. It was a pick up gig and I got caught with my pants down. The high pass filter on a + would have helped there.

I gig either the 212 or 215, mostly the 212 with wd800. The 215 to my ear has more depth, punch, and a 3d kind of sound in my opinion if that makes sense. I’ve had the 210 and 115 but I really gravitate towards 12s. I do however get the 215 out on occasion and it is amazing, as are all the Mesa offerings.

Larrison, 3D makes all kinds of sense. I liken it to when your listening to a great announcer or voice-over person. You hear the timbre of a recognizable voice and beneath it, almost separated are is these gorgeous low tones that seem to follow. Thx for your thoughts!

Not to draw this thread off-topic but would you mind telling us what stand you are using and how you like it? I'm an absolute believer in elevating my cabinets but haven't found anything I trust so far. I built a wood stand to hold my cabinets but it is bulky and heavy.
