New mesa subway amps and cabs!

I don't mean to sound ignorant - keep in mind I love the look of the new subway amp.

Can someone tell me what the differences are between it and the Subway 800+?

I've been saving for an 800+ -- now this new amp comes along... :)

At first glance it looks like a D800+ that you could take out on tour and not worry about it.

It also looks like you can get some nice overdriven sounds out of the preamp.

I'm amazed by my TH500's tube-like tone and feel. Technology sure has come a long way.

@agedhorse do you forsee a micro-head in the future that can faithfully duplicate the sound and feel of an all tube SVT?

Maybe.

agedhorse, any plans for an Ultra-Lite 1X15" with the same dimensions as the 4X10"? #mydreamstack

Probably not, the sensitivity and power matching between the 115 and 410 wouldn't be all that great.

PS... the only thing missing from the WD-800 is jewel power light:rollno:

It actually was on the list but wouldn't fit!

Damn you @agedhorse!

That is one irresistible beauty right there! How am I supposed to explain another amp?!?

The same way you explained the last one?

Oh wow. The WD800 looks like something I'd really like but damn I wish the overdrive could be sent to DI in Pre EQ mode. I'm sure there's a very good reason but I haven't thought it through just yet.
In the PRE EQ mode, the DI functions exactly like an active DI. Because the gain and overdrive occur within and after the input gain control, if the pre eq signal takeoff was after this point, the level would change with the input gain control.

So yes, it was done this way for a specific reason.

So agedhorse - seeing the WD-800 is an evolution from the walkabout, how close to the original's tone can you get out of it?
It is an evolution firmly based on the Walkabout platform. It gets pretty close, but just as important it expands the pallet to places where the original WA could not go, and at clean levels that are impossible with the WA.

Fingers crossed on 'pretty close' - sold my Walkabout to get a D800 that I just couldn't bond with. Pre-order placed...
