Hey wanted to ask if anyone has ordered the 410 yet? Impressions?

I know folks are more often taking a lighter, more modular approach these days, but I still love how complete a 410 cab sounds for my gigs.

Jason, I agree..a 4 x 10 really sounds complete and focused.. I have a Bergantino HDN 4x10 that’s really nice. I would love to do an A/B with the Berg 4x10 and a Subway 4x10 ...they have different specs and dimensions and the speaker alignment is different..

I actually picked up my Shuttle last night, petted it a little, and thanked it for all its hard work. I'm dying to try the WD, but I'm not ready to let go of my Shuttle just yet.

I love that you can dial in some overdrive with higher gain even at low volumes. I was playing loudly for the first few days, but trying to be respectful to my ears and, mostly, Mrs. Thumpenstein, I've been playing through my cab at lower volumes. I'm very impressed with the tones at low volume. I'll play through cans once in a while, and this head sounds great when I do, but I far prefer playing through the cab. It's great that you don't have to give that up at practice volumes.

If you only have an 8 ohm load attached, flip to the 2 ohm setting, and set the damping on low

Well, hey, I bought a WD-800.

I admired the other Subway amps, but the D-800 wasn't bright enough. The D-800+ has a bright switch, so that made it cooler.

But I did crave a little tube character though, so I kept on rocking my GK MBF-800. This WD-800 has a nice (although subtle) tube character. The form factor and features are great. Seems plenty loud, although the GK MBF-800 still seems louder; yes, it's hard to compare because the WD-800 has a more linear volume control.

I also have a Demeter VTBP-M-800D, which is the best sounding amp I've ever heard....in my practice space.. Super tubey. I concluded the Demeter is killer, but not the best for loud rock'n.

Anyway, nice job Mesa.

Question though:

I like the subway cabs, esp. with the Mesa head. Anyone compare a Bergantino HDN210 to a Mesa 210? Pros/cons? What is the most common go-to Mesa Subway combo.....2 x 1x12?

It sounds like you have the mid switch down, but the high switch up?

I believe you're correct. This is a Changeling so 3 switches, top two are up, bottom is down. iirc bottom is the mid grind.

Thanks good demo. Very warm sounding with the P Bass. I tried an active Jazz V through one and thought it was very clear, yet thick and open sounding.

hey @CaptainWally, so after a few days with the WD800 do you think you will be keeping the Demeter around ?

I am interested in this because I am a big original Walkabout fan who had the same issue many of us had with it not quite delivering enough clean headroom for medium/loud gigs (standalone ... no issues when FOH is consistent). As a result I went searching for tube goodness with more clean power and ended up with a Demeter VTBP (and a quite tube-y character, but no actual tube D800+).

The WA is still my favorite sounding amp, but unless I push it through bigger/multi-driver cabs (like a Berg NV610) .. these days the gigs usually go to the Subway D800+ or the Demeter. The D800+ definitely works well, but is also much more Carbine like to my ears. Teh Demeter does a very nice thing too, but its not an 800w Walkabout.

So, anyway, cool that you have the WD800 and let me/us know if you think it will cause you to sell the Demeter.
