New mesa subway amps and cabs!

Care to elaborate?

I mean it's really not a fair comparison, keep in mind the One10 uses a single 10" driver, weighs half as much, and costs nearly half as much. Also the One10 does not have a tweeter. These cabs are just designed to do two different things.

That being said, I estimate that it would take three One 10's to come close to the output of a single Subway 115 and I don't feel they would have the low end extension....but I don't know that because I only had the one to compare. But there is a HUUUGE difference in overall output and single One 10 could not handle my B string AT ALL. The Subway 115 is just huge, deep, and snappy sounding and handles the B string all day long. The One10 is rounder, more old school sounding and is easy to break up the cone.

Thinking 'should I get a Subway 115 or a BF One10?' should not really be a thought, they are just not meant to compete. If you want a BF cab, the Big Baby II is a closer comparison to the Subway cabs.

I’ve never owned a one10, but my Four10 can easily drown out a loud drummer, and reproduces the B string nicely at high volumes. Volume and low end extension are not a problem. I also have a BBII and a Big Twin II, but I prefer the sound of the Four10.

But I’m very interested in hearing what the SW 215 cab sounds like. I might make it down to NAMM tomorrow, so hopefully I can check it out there.

I couldn't agree more. I was extremely pleased with how easy it was to transfer the warranty on my recently purchased used Mesa D800+. I called the factory and left a message. The next business day I got a phone call from Garey telling me specifically what to do and he provided an email to send the required data. I sent it and the next day Garey sent an email telling me that everything was totally taken care of. Great follow up! Usually things like that enter a black hole and you never know if it actually happened. Very impressed with the Mesa service group both at the factory and on line on TalkBass.

IME, Mesa Customer Support is the best in the biz - it was already that way before agedhorse hired on with them, and has only gotten better since then...

This is one of the reasons I joined Mesa, customer service has always been an extremely important aspect of what makes a good company and I have always been part of such organizations in the past.

Hi Aged Horse.

Fully agreed on the Mesa Customer Service compliments.

Now in order to help avoiding the need to call...

Is it accurate to assume that a WD 800, set at 2 ohms, pushing two 8 ohm 300 watt Scout Radiators (each one plugged into a seperate output on the back of the amp), will push no more than 300 watts to each speaker?

Is it safe to use the WD 800 to drive two Scout Radiators this way as long as they are 8 ohms?

Correct, but I would still recommend using some caution if driving hard. Running the HPF up around 10:00 will also be helpful.

...and I would add that if you run a lot of bass EQ the advice above is even more important. IMO those cabs, while well designed and robust enough for their intended purpose, were not specifically designed with thoughts in mind of them seeing a machine like the Subway amps.

ahh - if "articulation" is judged by treble edge, then the D800/+ doesn't have as much going on up there as say a GK head. For guys that tend toward the Marcus tone, I could see that a Mesa might not be the first choice. I never associate punch with high end sheen though - for me that is mids, and the Mesa heads will do that all day long, particularly the WD-800. Also I find the WD-800 is a bit brighter and edgier out of the box than the D800/+/

I think I must have WD800!...I have D800 and D800+ and I'm always in Marcus world ;-)

I was already a huge fan of both Mesa and Genz-Benz at the time, and it made me very happy when you went to Mesa... The Subway line is proof positive that they made a great move when they hired you, IMO...

Mesa doesn’t need to do NAMM.
