New Meshuggah Track: Do Not Look Down

New album comes out on 3/26...almost my birthday. Pretty stoked about that, as it's been 5 years without new material from them.

The track seems like a bit of a departure for a band known for being a bit of a departure. The main riff is a cool groove, I think. Fredrik's solo is decidedly more shreddy than he has done in the past.

Overall, I like the track, and I'm now more anxious to hear the rest of it.

What do you guys think? Obviously meshuggah's vocal and mixed meter styles make them hard for some people to get into, so a lot of folks will have a big "***" going on, I suspect. I think meshuggah is one of the least approachable metal bands out there...it's hard to convince people who don't immediately 'get it'.

Several Meshuggah threads here in Misc. and that's got to be a good thing :)

Btw, I know it's an older tune, but have you seen the video for New Millenium Cyanide Christ? The air drumming kills me every time...Tomas looks so serious. It's quite possibly one of my most favourite music vids ever.

Bloodhammer...Catch33 is an immense slab of face melting power.

Yeah, I remember that! Isn't Jens singing into a toothbrush or a comb or something like that?

Especially when it gets to tracks 12 and 13! That album builds up and builds up until the sonic floodgates of Tartarus open and it levels you! I've always wanted to lock in everyone in a dance club, turn off almost all the lights and blare that album in its entirety over the PA. Imagine how horrifying it would be to everyone!
