These folks are a little obsessed with stainless steel, mostly because they give a 15 year warranty down to the frets and screws but yes, can be done...

This is his old design with straight pickup covers and black screws:

I can understand his obsession with stainless steel living in Brasil. I lived there for two years and the humiity is killer on everything. If it can rust, it will rust.

Those are some fine looking instruments though. Beleza!

You got that right... He's 5 minutes from this beach:

If you've been to Salvador, you know how your glasses or your windows get completely covered with salt every 5 minutes. There's a room with a de-humidifier turned on 24/7 or it would be a nightmare...

Exactly, I agree it's odd, and obviously, you can order a bass without this feature.

I honestly don't get a grasp of the physics behind it and I could even argue against it, since it's quite obvious to me that what happens past the nut has no influence to the tension or sound of the strings.

That said, his Extended B 34" scale basses have a low B that I've rarely heard in any other bass (even my 35's). I would compare it only to a Dingwall lowB, which is insanely good. The tone is well worth the oddity in looks...

Never been to Salvador. I was in the western half of the state of Rio de Janeiro and Espirito Santo. I liked it a lot there. What a beautiful part of our world. Even though all of my envelopes glued themselves shut in a couple of days.

Like Nova Friburgo and such? Beautiful area indeed.

So you never lived by the beach down there? Man, the humidity is like 50 times worse in Salvador.

I never did make it to Nova Friburgo or Petropolis. Always wanted to go there though. I was in Cabo Frio, Vila Velha, and Serra. They all had beaches. I loved Cabo Frio. Very nice. I was there in the winter too which made it nicer as it wasn't so crowded but was still plenty warm enough.

You are correct sir. That's what I get for posting too early in the morning. I need to stop that. It was the eastern part of the state I was in. I also spent some time in Campos and Sao Goncalo. Thanks for clearing that up for me. :)

The point is that the basses are basically rip offs of established designs. I don't care how good he is at carving and construction (and he looks quite good), it's intellectually dishonest to make money on direct replicas of someone else's original hard work. I know plenty of people are ok with that, but Vinnie designed those shapes through countless hours of work. Someone else shouldn't just see that and say "hey I'm going to take that", and copy it right down to how they are put together. Kinda shameful IMO.

To be clear I don't think people should be straight up copying Fender either, but it is what it is.

I understand and respect protection of intellectual property.
But, how many different ways can someone cut a bass?

To me, some of this stuff is like - the phone and tablet companies suing the crap out of each other trying to patent things like gestures and locations of things on a screen. Some of it is nonsense.

All instruments are by nature, basically rip offs of established designs. Matter of fact...everything is, including me and u :0)

NO way are those basses ripping anyone's designs off unless you consider that most basses have similar shapes. Two horns and a neck with a couple of pickups.
Either way, those basses are spectacular.

J, some people would consider the bass in your avatar a ripoff of a Fodera considering it's a singlecut bass guitar. I don't, but it's a point to be made.

edit: I would say however that these basses definitely show their influences very strongly. It's like hearing a younger musician who's influences are very obvoious, however hopefully that musician (or luthier) with time will continue to develop their work into something more personal.
